About the Fellowship
This Ernest Oppenheimer Early Career Research Fellowship is offered to researchers in Colloid Science, broadly encompassing biology, chemistry, physics, materials science and engineering. It provides an opportunity for independent research while collaborating with an established research group. The fellowship will be based in Cambridge in an appropriate department. Tenure is three years, commencing 1 October 2026. The stipend range is £37,694 – £46,049 p.a., with automatic annual increments up to Single Salary Spine point 48. A contribution may be made towards relocation expenses, and up to £25 k p.a. will be available for research expenses. The fellowship cannot be held concurrently with any other paid position or stipend‑bearing role.
Responsibilities
Conduct independent research in colloid science, collaborate with an established research group, and deliver high‑quality scholarly outputs. The research programme must be relevant to broad colloid science.
Qualifications
• Completed a PhD by 1 October 2026 and no more than three years of post‑doctoral research after the PhD defence.
• Knowledge and experience in biology, chemistry, physics, materials science or engineering relevant to colloid science.

* Curriculum Vitae (maximum 2 pages, font ≥ 11 pt) including academic career, qualifications (class of degree and position in course as x/y), any relevant teaching experience, and a numbered list of published papers with DOIs.
* Two Statements – one describing previous research (≤ 1 page), one stating current research (≤ 1 page), and a proposed research programme (≤ 3 pages). All must explicitly explain how the proposal relates to colloid science.
* Head of Department Written Approval form completed by the Head of the Department in Cambridge where the applicant intends to work.
* Exclusion of any additional documents not specifically requested.
* Ensure all uploaded documents use a font size no smaller than 11 pt.
Applications must not exceed the specified lengths; excessive length or smaller font size will result in rejection.
