The Opportunity
Nottingham is an ambitious city with a pioneering scientific pedigree—from the development of the MRI scanner to its status as a designated UK Science City. We are seeking an energetic Science Teacher to join an established foundation school. This role is a chance to ignite students' curiosity about the material world, encouraging them to analyse data critically and master fundamental concepts across biology, chemistry, and physics in a community that actively champions STEM education.
The School As a foundation school, our governing body maintains direct ownership of our site and employs our staff, allowing us to build a highly tailored, stable learning community. We pride ourselves on cultivating an inclusive environment where professional autonomy is respected, behavioural expectations are clear and consistently enforced, and every student is pushed to achieve their potential regardless of their starting point.
The Department & Classroom Environment
* You will be working inside a purpose-built science block featuring dedicated laboratory spaces for practical chemistry experiments, physics modelling, and biological studies.
* The faculty is supported by an experienced team of full-time laboratory technicians who ensure equipment and materials are seamlessly prepared for hands-on learning.
* The curriculum prioritizes a healthy balance between theoretical concepts and practical application, ensuring students don't just memorize definitions but understand the scientific method.
* Regular collaborative planning sessions allow teachers to share high-quality resources, minimize individual workload, and keep the curriculum fresh and engaging.
Core Responsibilities
1. Dynamic Lesson Delivery: Planning and teaching high-challenge Science lessons across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (GCSE) that build core skills and conceptual understanding.
2. Practical Safety & Skill: Leading safe, organized, and impactful laboratory practicals that train students in accurate measurement, observation, and analysis.
3. Targeted Assessment: Utilizing regular low-stakes testing and formal mock data to identify learning gaps, providing clear feedback that empowers students to close them.
4. Exam Preparation: Ensuring students are thoroughly fluent in exam command words, application questions, and the required practical components for their GCSE specifications.
5. Whole-School Contribution: Participating in departmental meetings, parents' evenings, and the wider pastoral life of the school as a supportive form tutor.
The Successful Candidate We want to recruit a teacher who loves their subject and knows how to break down complex ideas for developing minds. Your application should demonstrate:
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) alongside a degree in a recognized science discipline (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or an applied science variant).
* Strong Classroom Management: The ability to establish clear routines, high expectations, and a purposeful, respectful atmosphere from day one.
* Effective Communication: A skill for making abstract topics—from atomic structure to cellular respiration—tangible and relevant to young learners.
* Team Ethos: A willingness to collaborate on resources, accept constructive feedback, and contribute to the positive working culture of the department.
Why Join Our Staff?
* A school structure that provides greater operational autonomy, allowing us to invest directly in our staff's long-term professional development.
* Structured internal mentoring pathways, with excellent support programs for both early career teachers and experienced practitioners looking toward middle leadership.
* The chance to live and work in Nottingham—a vibrant, culturally rich midlands hub offering fantastic public transport, a low cost of living, and an active sports and arts scene.
* A realistic approach to teacher workload, with centralized behaviour systems and shared resource banks designed to protect your personal time.
