The Technical Project Manager is responsible for developing engineering solutions and strategies for projects including heat networks, data centres, and long-duration storage.
Reporting to the Technical Manager, the role involves supporting the development of engineering policies, standards, design frameworks, and standardised solutions. The candidate should leverage their technical and commercial knowledge to develop solutions and provide accurate capital expenditure forecasts to aid financial modeling and investment decisions.
Key Responsibilities
* Support the development of project pipelines to meet growth targets and develop technical and commercial solutions.
* Develop procurement strategies in collaboration with the Technical Manager and procurement teams.
* Assist in formulating technical and commercial strategies.
* Contribute to technical and commercial agreements to mitigate risks.
* Ensure decisions are backed by thorough due diligence.
* Manage design specifications and tendering processes.
* Coordinate with external suppliers and contractors to meet delivery and quality standards.
* Oversee interface management between contractors and construction partners.
* Handle contract claims and variations, informing the Technical Manager accordingly.
* Manage technical advisors and consultants as needed.
* Monitor contracts against schedules, ensuring milestones are achieved, and produce project reports.
* Maintain contract budgets and report on financial status.
* Conduct meetings and prepare reports for senior management, highlighting risks and progress.
* Identify and manage engineering risks, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards.
* Participate in lessons learned to improve business practices.
* Conduct coordination meetings with teams, clients, and contractors.
Qualifications and Skills
* Relevant degree or equivalent experience.
* Knowledge of plant design, maintenance, construction, and commissioning.
* Experience with industry contract terms (FIDIC, NEC, JCT) and energy sector projects.
* Proven project management and engineering experience.
* Understanding of commercial contracts and negotiations.
* Technical due diligence expertise.
* Ability to translate technical details into commercial impacts.
* Health & Safety management skills.
* Strong interpersonal, communication, and report-writing skills.
* Experience in writing technical specifications.
* Leadership skills to manage resources and deliver projects on time.
* Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
* Innovative and creative thinking abilities.
Minimum Criteria
* Degree or equivalent experience.
* Negotiation skills.
* Proven track record in people management, change, quality, and risk management.
* Strong influencing and negotiation skills at senior levels.
