Overview
Environment Agency is seeking a Manager to lead the Economic Crime Unit (ECU), part of the National Environmental Crime Unit (NECU). The successful candidate will lead a specialist team dedicated to removing the financial benefit from criminals. The ECU Manager will be the strategic lead for financial investigations to ensure compliance with the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA).
You will work in a hybrid role, with flexible working patterns including job share, and occasional travel across the country for meetings and operational duties. Incident response is a central part of the role and may attract additional payment. Training and workplace adjustments will be available to support you.
Responsibilities
* Lead and manage two Team Leaders (Asset Denial Team and Money Laundering Investigation Team) and a Senior Financial Intelligence Officer, providing strong leadership, developing staff, and managing performance and delivery.
* Set the strategic direction for financial investigations and ensure alignment with POCA obligations.
* Collaborate with internal groups (Investigatory Teams, Intelligence & Partnerships, Legal) and external partners (Police, National Crime Agency, HMRC) to influence senior stakeholders and secure recognition of EA priorities.
* Support the wider organisation in improving processes related to POCA, share lessons learned, contribute to technical documentation, and advise enforcement officers nationwide.
* Contribute to the development and capability enhancement of the ECU team and the individuals within it.
Team and Environment
The Economic Crime Unit consists of two teams – Asset Denial and Money Laundering Investigations. The unit comprises Financial Investigators, Financial Intelligence Officers, and Crime Analysts. It operates with enforcement staff and partners across the country to tackle serious and complex criminality involving organised crime networks.
Experience and Skills (Qualifications)
* Exceptional leadership skills, ideally with experience leading a dispersed team.
* Strong understanding of financial investigations and the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA).
* Experience in law enforcement and understanding of the National Intelligence Model.
* Effective communication, including delivering feedback, managing performance, and building relationships with external stakeholders.
* Ability to work under pressure and prioritise a varied workload.
* Ability to identify areas for improvement and lead changes to working practices.
* Experience developing and enhancing the capability of a team and its members.
Additional Information
* This is a hybrid role; travel across the country for meetings and operational duties is required.
* Incident response is part of the role and you should be available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during incidents (may attract additional payment).
