Hourly Paid Lecturer in Modern Languages for University Language Programme

We are looking for colleagues with the following languages: Arabic, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean or Spanish.


£49.75 per direct hour, this includes 2 or more of the following elements: teaching, preparation and marking of the scheduled programme of work.

A flat rate of £20.29 per direct teaching hour will be paid for completing one of the above elements of the schedule.

The number of hours required and the days of the week may vary.



About the Role

Nottingham Trent University is looking for hourly paid lecturers to contribute to the University Language Programme in the following languages: Arabic, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Spanish.

The University Language Programme (ULP) at the Nottingham Institute for Languages and Intercultural Communications within the School of Social Sciences provides students and staff across the university, as well as members of the general public with the opportunity to learn a new language or improve their existing language skills. Our language courses are designed to build students’ ability and confidence to communicate freely in their chosen language.

The classes take place on our City campus both during the day and in the evening (6-8 pm).

We are seeking highly motivated and suitably qualified candidates with native or near-native competence in the mentioned languages to deliver Hourly Paid Teaching of language classes within the University Language Programme. You will work under the direction of the ULP Course Leaders and the Language Subject Leaders in delivering high quality teaching and learning (face-to-face on campus) to undergraduate, postgraduate and external students. Delivery of classes includes active use of the University’s virtual learning platform. Duties will consist of, e.g., preparation, delivery, and marking (including moderation and/or second-marking).

Classes are normally two hours in length, and often take place in the evenings. You will need to be an experienced language teaching specialist, with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to teach a language effectively using a variety of methods.

Some of the key activities within your role are :

* As part of the module team, you prepare and deliver teaching and teaching materials, utilising appropriate teaching, learning, support and assessment methods to ensure the defined learning objectives are met, with the guidance of the programme team, and taking into account student or peer feedback where appropriate.
* The setting and marking of projects and assignments and providing timely feedback to students.
* The setting, marking and supervision of examinations (including referrals).
* Ensuring that knowledge of the relevant subject area is up to date by engaging in continuous professional development, and incorporating this into taught material.
