NJC Scale Point 18 FTE £30,146

Pro rata’d £15,073.00 for 18.25 (18 hrs 15 minutes)

JOB OUTLINE:

Working Independently, the Occupational Therapy service will provide a person centred and evidence-based assessment and interventions to support service users with learning disabilities / difficulties and older adults to promote life skills, instil healthy eating habits, improve access to healthcare, build confidence to lead fulfilling, and independent lives. In this role, you would be working closely with individuals within their own communities with meaningful activities / programmes to be undertaken within DRC premises, supported living accommodations, community venues and client homes.

MAIN RESPONSBILITIES:

* Support service users to seek and engage with meaningful activities that improve confidence and offer lifelong skills
* Address client’s aspects of performance to support engagement in activities that affect health, well-being and life quality
* Responsible for sourcing eligible service users for the programme
* Responsible for supplying monitoring information and reports to the line manager on a monthly basis
* Increase client's awareness, understanding and usage of appropriate healthcare.
* Create activities that help support and instil healthy eating habits including providing advice on diets, exercise, managing stress and anxiety
* Educate service users on kitchen safety, food prep, managing medicines, self-hygiene, staying safe online, fire and carbon monoxide safety, road awareness etc
* Teach clients new ways of approaching tasks and educate them on how to break down activities into achievable components
* Assess client’s home and other environments and advice on alterations consistent with their needs and capabilities
* Recommend adaptive equipment and support service users by improving their healthcare and medical awareness
* Guide and educate family members and caregivers
* Observe, note, and report on progress of long- and short-term goals
* Collect data and document processes followed
* Regularly follow-up service users

GENERAL:

Maintain strict confidentiality in relation to work undertaken and ensure all confidentiality materials are stored according to DRC’s Data Protection and Data Security Policies.

Be adept in employing the correct procedures for dealing with any safeguarding incidents or concerns in line with DRC’s Safeguarding policies.

* Maintain personal and professional development to meet the changing demands of the job, participate in appropriate training activities and encourage and support staff in their development and training.
* Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, in line with needs of DRC and the team.

Qualifications

Qualification in Occupational Therapy. Essential

Degree qualification or equivalent. Desirable

Experience

Experience working with diverse communities and building strong relationships. Essential

Delivery of programmes to time, target, and budget. Essential

Experience of working in a demanding environment. Essential

Experience of partnership working.Essential

Specific delivery to disabled people and those with long term health conditions. Desirable Knowledge

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor communication to different audiences. Essential

Hands on problem solving. Essential

Strong analytical and reporting skills. Essential

Proactive, self-motivated, and a team player. Essential

Experience in customer service is desirable.

A driving license and access to a vehicle is desirable, as the role involves regular travel within Birmingham

Both theoretical and practical knowledge to implement equal opportunities and diversity practice. Desirable

Good working knowledge of IT including MS Office and data management. Essential

Understanding of the Social Model of Disability. Desirable

A good working knowledge of the Yardley area. Desirable
