Job Summary
Responsible for providing specialist Fire Safety advice to the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust on all Fire Safety matters relating to people and premises. Working as part of the Estates department, the role ensures compliance with legislation, regulations, codes of practice, and the Trust’s Fire Safety Policy, and delivers training and supports capital projects.
Responsibilities
The role covers both Barnet & Chase Farm Hospitals and requires regular travelling to both sites.
* Provide specialist expert advice on active and passive fire systems.
* Manage and oversee a fire risk assessment programme, including remedy and mitigation of defects.
* Assess and oversee mandatory fire safety training, including fire warden, induction, refresher, and evacuation training for staff.
* Oversee installation, witnessing, commissioning and handover of fire systems as delegated client and asset owner.
* Chair meetings with contractors and monitor contract performance and compliance.
* Liaise with key stakeholders on day‑to‑day fire safety matters.
* Coordinate multidisciplinary fire drills and exercises across the Trust estate.
* Ensure effective PPM planning and compliance monitoring for all fire safety assets and systems.
* Audit hot works, fire alarm alteration and penetration permit to work systems.
* Prepare regular routine status reports on all matters relating to fire safety.
* On‑site operational role; no work from home or hybrid working.
Qualifications
Essential:
* Comprehensive, up‑to‑date knowledge of all legislation, standards, and best practice in fire safety.
* Previous experience within the Fire and Rescue Service or another enforcing body.
* Technical background in Mechanical, Electrical or Building Fabric Maintenance.
* Extensive experience preparing and delivering fire training.
* Extensive experience of fire safety risk assessment procedures.
* Knowledge of Building Regulations applicable to fire safety.
* Degree level qualification or relevant equivalent experience in fire safety management.
* Professional qualifications: NEBOSH Fire Safety Certificate, membership of professional institutes (IFE, IFSM).
* Accredited Fire Risk Assessment Qualification.
* Computer literate (Microsoft Office); ability to use phone, tablet, desktop PC.
* Strong communication, decision making, project management and organisational skills.
* Ability to travel and work outside normal hours as required.
Desirable:
* Calibration and maintenance of fire safety active and passive devices.
* Specialist training in fire safety engineering for new and refurbishment constructions.
Other Requirements:
* Availability to travel between Barnet and Chase Farm Hospitals.
