We currently have a Central Technician position available for a motivated individual to join our team in Exeter. This is a full-time role with a competitive salary of £30,218 per annum (including a 20% shift allowance of £36,261), plus excellent benefits.
About the role
As the Central Support Technician, you will provide out-of-hours central support to Waste Water Services by working alongside the Alarm Team & Central Duty Manager. Your responsibilities include alarm triage, proactive interventions, responding to alerts from SSC systems and initiatives like Meniscus & Burst Detect, and supporting pollution and event management.
This role operates on a 24/7 shift pattern: 6 days on, 4 days off, with shifts from 06:30 to 14:45, 14:30 to 22:45, and 22:30 to 06:45.
What you'll be doing:
* Provide enhanced out-of-hours alarm triage and investigation of Waste Water alarms, using SCADA signals, trend data, and other systems to manage pollution and compliance risks.
* Proactively monitor and respond to alerts from SSC systems to aid in pollution interventions and responses (BeachLive, Detetronics, Meniscus, Burst Detect, etc.).
* Support the Waste Water Central Duty Manager with pollution incident response, liaising with stakeholders, and maintaining updated records.
* Provide resilience cover for the Central Duty Manager during periods of absence.
* Work with and coach the Alarm Team in managing waste water alarms and escalations.
* Support operational teams, FSCs, and Pro-active Alarm Coordinators in promoting compliance and pollution risk mitigation.
* Communicate with internal and external stakeholders, including regulators.
* Minimize out-of-hours disturbance for WWS Duty Standby Area Managers and field team members.
* Participate in a 24/7 shift rotation.
What we are looking for:
* 5 GCSEs or equivalent including Maths, English, and a Science subject; A Level or equivalent preferred.
* Recognized Water Industry qualification.
* Proven experience working in an operational control room.
* Ability to adjust and reprioritize workloads according to operational demands.
* Ability to participate in a 24/7 shift rotation.
