Position

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Clinical Pharmacist based at West Road Centre, Irvine.

Please note this vacancy is fixed-term or secondment for 12 months.


What you will do

Senior Clinical Pharmacist – Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) Agenda for Change Band 8A, 1 part-time post (22.3 hours) fixed term or secondment. You will lead, develop and deliver the provision of prescribing and pharmaceutical care to the Ayrshire & Arran CAMHS. You will provide expert advice in pharmaceutical matters and promote safe, clinically effective and cost effective prescribing for CAMHS patients in primary and secondary care. You will act as an independent prescriber within the CAMHS outpatient setting and liaise with health care professionals around ongoing care. This post may provide a highly specialist clinical pharmacy service to specified child and adolescent patients with mental health disorders within the National Secure Adolescent Inpatient Service (NSAIS) unit when it becomes operational. You will contribute to the wider development, evaluation and improvement of pharmaceutical services to CAMHS patients, including the implementation of relevant mental health legislation. You will be accountable for the safe and cost effective use of medicines within the designated areas and promote local initiatives to improve medicines management. You will work with the primary care team to identify prescribing indicators around the CAMHS agenda and develop plans for joint working to ensure safe and cost effective medicine use. You should have a passion for high quality patient care and build strong professional relationships with the wider multi-disciplinary team and pharmacy colleagues in hospital and community settings. The post requires leadership skills, the ability to work autonomously, and the capability to drive clinical and service developments. Strong communication, organisational and IT skills are essential.

Knowledge, training and/or experience required to do the job

Previous mental health experience is desirable but not essential. You will have substantial experience as a qualified pharmacist, be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council, be an independent prescriber, and hold a postgraduate qualification in clinical pharmacy (or demonstrate equivalent competence). The pharmacy directorate supports continuing professional development (CPD). The post requires full PVG Scheme membership/Disclosure Scotland. A driving licence is essential. Candidates new to the NHS should expect to start at the entry point of the pay scale shown.

22.3 hours per week


UK Driving Licence/Car Ownership

A UK car licence/car ownership is essential to this role.
