Home Based Support Worker

Enhanced Family Help Team - Children's Services

Are you passionate about building relationships and supporting children and their families to live within the community and thrive within the family home through targeted support tailored to the needs of the family?

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, dedicated and resilient Home-Based Support Worker to join our countywide Enhanced Family Help team, with the aim to enable all children to access all support and services they need to thrive at home with their families.

This role will be within the Enhanced Specialist Support Team which follows the Family Help team model but holds its own specific caseload where long term Chronic Neglect is the prevailing factor.

The team of Social Workers, Family Practitioners, a Clinician, and Home-Based Support Workers co-work with each other, universal services and families to deliver targeted and intensive support to reduce the risks of long-term neglect and improve outcomes for children.

The Home-Based Support Worker role specifically will cover a range of practical targeted interventions specific to the needs of the child, family and their network within a timely/time limited capacity to promote safety and well-being and prevent escalation of need. You will embrace the Flourish ambition for all children as an approach that underpins your work with children and families.

As a Home-Based Support Worker, you will work with families, directed by Family Practitioners/Social Workers to promote safety and well-being and prevent escalation of need.

Interventions Will Be One-to-one With Families

Motivating and supporting families to overcome barriers with parenting and home environment management, e.g. cleanliness, routines, mealtimes, bedtimes, promoting attachment parenting styles that build trust and healthy relationships and attending appointments, school and the community.
Role modelling, advice and guidance for successful nurturing parenting.
Supporting families to access other professional services (Mental Health, Health, Housing, Benefits, etc.).

You will need to have relevant experience in an environment providing services for children and their families, a good knowledge of child development from birth to age 19, and factors of Neglect, and experience of working in family homes.

You will feel confident delivering interventions one-to-one at home and/or in the community or in a group basis, with children, young people and parents/caregivers.

With an NVQ level 3 in a relevant subject or equivalent experience, you will be willing to undertake training in your first year. You will have relevant experience providing services for children and young people, and their families and an understanding of child development from birth to 19 including factors which impede overall development.

To support families when they most need it, Home Based Support Workers work a 37 hour per week.

To support families when they most need it, you will be required to work outside of normal office hours to deliver the support to the children and family as needed on a case-by-case basis.

You are required to travel as part of your duties, the majority of which will involve lone working with children, young people and families in their homes and community. You will be responsible for your own travel arrangements, and these must be carried out in the most effective and efficient way to perform your job. You may also be required to transport children and babies in your own vehicle. The Enhanced Family Help Team will work with children and families across the county and whilst we will endeavour to assign work in a particular area, there will be times when you will need to work across the county to support the team function.

It is also important to be aware that you will be working with complex and emotionally difficult cases. You will be required to visit family homes where conditions and hygiene may be poor/unsafe, and you may encounter drug/alcohol misusers. Regular supervision will be offered by the Team Manager and access to Norfolk wellbeing and support services will be available.

The interview process will consist of a competency-based interview. If this is successful, a further safe care (Warner) interview will follow.

Before you apply, we recommend reading the full Job Description and Person Specification to help you demonstrate you meet the criteria. Please ensure when submitting your covering letter, you evidence fully how you meet the essential and desirable criteria of the role.
