Overview
An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Applied Psychologist to join the CRHTT in BCHFT. One 0.6 WTE post is available based in one of our CRHTTs in Sandwell, Dudley or Walsall. Applicants to any of these locations are welcome; some cross-locality work may be required based on clinical need. You will join fast-paced MDT environments to work in the least restrictive way to support service users presenting with acute and urgent care mental health needs. Psychology will be embedded as part of the CRHTT foundations, and you will exercise leadership in psychological assessments, formulation, care planning and brief psychological interventions.
We have strong links with local universities across clinical, forensic and counselling courses and established connections into a national psychology group for Trauma Interventions in Acute Settings. The successful candidate will be part of a group of Psychologists in Urgent Care based across acute settings including CRHTT, in-patients, mental health liaison services and PICU, and will receive supervision and opportunities for CPD.
Advert You will support the Principal Psychologist for CRHTT and the Consultant Psychologist for Urgent Care in the delivery of psychology in CRHTT. Based in the CRHTT, you will join a multidisciplinary team in working with people experiencing a mental health crisis. With the aims of preventing hospital admission and facilitating early discharge, you will offer assessments, formulation, care planning and short-term interventions to clients with high levels of risk. Psychology also supports team members through regular reflective practice groups and supervision and this is highly valued by MDT colleagues.
We are looking for someone who can work flexibly and creatively as a member of a multidisciplinary team who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment. We would welcome applications from newly qualified psychological practitioners who are keen to gain experience in urgent care settings and can offer band 7-8a developmental opportunities where appropriate.
Responsibilities
* Provide psychological assessments, formulation, care planning and short-term interventions for people experiencing acute mental health crises in CRHTT settings.
* Lead in psychological formulations and contribute to MDT discussions and care planning.
* Support service users in least restrictive approaches and aim to prevent hospital admission and facilitate early discharge where possible.
* Offer supervision and contribute to reflective practice groups to support MDT learning and development.
* Collaborate with universities and external networks for trauma interventions in acute settings.
* Work flexibly across CRHTTs and related acute settings as clinical need dictates.
Qualifications and Requirements
* Qualified psychologist with registration to practice (relevant NHS banding 7-8a opportunities for development).
* Experience or interest in urgent care / crisis intervention within mental health services is desirable; newly qualified practitioners are welcome.
* Ability to work within a fast-paced MDT environment and contribute to reflective practice and supervision.
* Willingness to travel across Sandwell, Dudley or Walsall and undertake cross-locality work as required.
