Design & Development Engineer
Cambridge | Contract until end of 2026 | £476.90 per day
The Opportunity
An exciting contract opportunity has arisen for a Mechanical Design & Development Engineer to support the development of innovative drug delivery devices across a growing product pipeline.
You will play a key role in the design, analysis, and optimisation of high-volume medical devices, working from early prototype through to commercialisation.
Key Responsibilities
* Perform technical assessments of drug delivery devices, including:
* Tolerance analysis
* Functional and performance modelling
* FEA simulations
* Develop detailed component and system designs using 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred)
* Produce engineering drawings from concept through to production tooling
* Support Design for Manufacture (DFM/DFMA) reviews to ensure efficient production
* Collaborate with suppliers to source and optimise components (e.g. moulded parts)
* Contribute to material selection and evaluation for device components
* Ensure compliance with internal Quality Management Systems
* Support investigation and reporting of technical issues, complaints, or adverse events
Skills & Experience Required
* Proven experience developing high-volume products, ideally within:
* Medical devices
* Drug delivery
* Regulated manufacturing environments
* Strong proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred)
* Solid understanding of core engineering principles:
* Mechanics
* Kinematics
* Thermodynamics
* Materials science
* Experience with tolerance analysis and DFMA principles
* Knowledge of assembly processes and manufacturing techniques
* Familiarity with quality control and risk management in regulated environments
* Strong technical writing and documentation skills
Qualifications
* Degree, MSc or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
