Job Purpose

Reporting to the Quality Manager, the Quality Engineer will be responsible for all aspects of product quality and reliability during design, manufacture, test and material supply. This will require working closely with the design and development team, operational team, manufacturing engineering and supply chain management. A basic electrical understanding is essential along with mechanical and manufacturing experience.

Key to this role will be the resolution of technical and quality issues and driving continuous improvement throughout the product life cycle and supply chain.

The focus for the Quality Engineer will be customer, product and component quality, supplier quality and approvals. The role may also take on some manufacturing or production/process responsibilities.

Job Dimensions

* Geographic scope – UK organisation areas
* Direct involvement with other members of the Lucy Electric Operations, Sales, Engineering and Technical Team at all levels and globally.
* To undertake any other duties and responsibilities as required / instructed to maintain and / or improve the efficiency and quality of products and services provided by Lucy Electric.
* Engagement with customers as and when required.
* Health & Safety, environmental, compliance adherence to all Company Policies, Procedures and Safe Working Practices.


Key Accountabilities

* Provide expertise in Quality Assurance and process improvement tools and methods to targeted functions of the organisation to support them in their continuous improvement activities.
* Execute initiatives of the organisation in the development, implementation and improvement of the Lucy Integrated Management System throughout the organisation.
* Execute Quality Control, monitoring and reporting processes defined in the Lucy Integrated Management System to control the quality of products delivered to operations and finished products shipped to customers.
* Provide support to process improvement and monitoring activities through development, deployment, analysis, evaluation and review of appropriate business, process and product performance metrics to develop, recommend and implement action plans to achieve targeted performance levels.
* Execute the organisation’s internal audit plan and progress any issues identified to root cause, corrective and preventive actions using the organisation’s corrective action request process.
* Support and drive investigations in to customer complaints through the provision of root cause analysis and the identification of corrective and preventive actions to eliminate the identified root causes. Provision of candid reports, suitable for consumption within Lucy, describing findings and actions taken to address issues.
* Provide support to the Supply Chain Management organisation in the collection, reporting and analysis of Supplier Quality data as well as support the Quality interface between the organisation and its suppliers.
* Participate in all aspects of product development, launch and transfer activities throughout the organisation with efforts primarily focused on Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) as defined in the Lucy Integrated Management System.
* Support other Lucy organisations in the areas listed above within reasonable scopes as required by the organisation.
* Participate in the performance management process and provide input to the appropriate functions in terms of career development interests. Contribute to the design and implementation of Quality Assurance training programmes and conduct training in related topics throughout the organisation.


Secondary Activities / Tasks

* To undertake business travel within the UK and, occasionally, abroad as and when required.


Qualifications, Knowledge, and Experience

* Structured problem solving
* Seven basis Quality Tools
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Access, Word and Excel.
* Engineering competency including the ability to read drawings, BOMs and experience of a general electrical wiring and understanding schematics.
* Understanding test procedures and troubleshooting of hardware embedded electronic systems.
* Experience in a range of technologies including digital, analogue and power electronics
* Advanced Quality Planning (APQP), Production Part Approval (PPAP), Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA).
* Knowledge of MV distribution systems and switchgear
* Familiarity with CAD packages for schematic capture and PCB artwork design.
* Experience in supporting a range of technologies including digital, analogue and power electronics, communications (GSM, GPRS, 3G/4G, Radio, etc.), RTU, SCADA
* Verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills
* Methodological Problem Solving approach.
* Capable of organising and retrieving historic data.
* The ability to work effectively independently or within a team.
* Willing to learn new systems and technologies.
* Well organised.
* Proactive.
* Ability to learn and understand Distribution Automation and Overhead Switchgear solutions and general electromechanical assembly.


Other Requirements

* HNC/HND or similar qualification
* Must have an engineering background
* QA and Test Experience
* Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
* IQA certified Quality Engineer or equivalent.
* IRCA certified internal auditor.
