Focuses on reducing downtime, improving equipment reliability, and supporting continuous improvement across factory operations.
* Conduct routine and planned inspections of plant, machinery, and facilities to identify maintenance requirements and potential issues, agreeing priorities and schedules with the Engineering Supervisor.
* Coordinate and distribute maintenance tasks to the engineering team as directed, tracking progress and ensuring completion is recorded and any issues are clearly communicated.
* Monitor engineering spare parts, tools, and equipment availability, proactively reporting requirements and shortages to the Engineering Supervisor.
* Provide hands-on engineering support, carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and responding to breakdowns when required.
* Support the development and implementation of an improved PPM system and engineering parts stock control, replacing the existing paper-based processes.
* Work closely with factory line setters, offering technical support and resolving production line and machinery issues efficiently.
* Assist in the supervision of third-party contractors during installations, repairs, and planned maintenance activities, ensuring compliance with site safety procedures and safe systems of work.
* Contribute to engineering projects, including new equipment installations and continuous improvement initiatives aimed at increasing efficiency and reliability across production areas.
* Diagnose faults, carry out repairs, and implement corrective actions to restore equipment performance.
* Support the provision of 24/7 engineering cover to ensure rapid response to breakdowns and minimise production disruption.
* Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with company procedures and current legislation, with a strong focus on health, safety, and quality standards.
* Assist with monitoring and controlling the maintenance budget, ensuring costs remain within agreed limits.
* Supervise, mentor, and train maintenance engineers and line setters, identifying development and training needs.
* Provide ongoing support and guidance to engineering apprentices.
* Recognised engineering qualifications with formal training in disciplines such as electrical, mechanical, pneumatics, and plumbing.
* Experience in a maintenance leadership or supervisory role, ideally within a food manufacturing or similar industrial environment.
* Strong technical understanding of automated production equipment, building services, and manufacturing processes.
* Good knowledge of health and safety legislation and safe working practices.
* Ability to plan and manage maintenance activities and small engineering projects.
* Strong attention to detail with a proactive, solutions-focused approach.
* Experience using planned preventative maintenance (PPM) systems.
* Proven leadership and team management skills.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Strong fault-finding and problem-solving capabilities.
* Awareness of maintenance budgeting and cost control.
* Competent IT skills.
