Job Description
Process Engineer – Permanent position, 37 hours per week with core business hours. The role includes weekend work and participation in a 24/7 standby rota once fully trained.
Key Responsibilities
* Maintain and operate processes at a Water Treatment Works, ensuring compliance with water quality standards, environmental regulations and health & safety.
* Clean and calibrate instrumentation; complete water quality laboratory checks; fault‑find and diagnose treatment issues.
* Integrate trend data, clean process tanks and execute small‑scale pipework repairs.
* Collaborate with electrical and mechanical colleagues to resolve faults and manage chemical deliveries.
* Lead chemical and process optimisation activities to achieve the water production optimal plan and manage cost.
* Manage asset failure, operational recovery from the field and support cost information monitoring.
* Review risk assessments and method statements, issue control of work documentation and adhere to safe systems of work.
* Update reporting systems to ensure H&S compliance across the Water Treatment Works in line with HSE, DWI and Environment Agency statutory requirements.
* Provide operational support during incidents or operational events and ensure appropriate escalation and management.
* Embrace modernisation ways of working, reduce asset failure through Dynamic Asset Maintenance and support the new ERP‑based operational asset management system.
Skills & Qualifications
* Hands‑on, practical approach with a willingness to self‑learn in a regulated environment.
* Strong analytical skills, keen to fault‑find, review data and identify trends.
* Rigorous attention to detail and proficiency in IT systems.
* Knowledge of risk policies and procedures, and familiarity with regulatory HSE obligations.
* Effective stakeholder management – internal and external.
* Previous experience in a commercial or regulated environment, preferably within water or wastewater sectors.
* Must pass strict medical criteria (BMI, vision, blood pressure, hearing, Spirometry) for confined space work.
* Full, valid UK driving licence with no more than 6 points.
* Flexibility to respond to out‑of‑hours incidents and manage a rota schedule.
