Tutor of Art & Design Ref : 2526/139 Hours : 29.6 hours per week (0.8 fte) Salary : Up to £43,408 pro rata per annum* (subject to experience and qualifications). Plus generous benefits. These include: • 57 days annual leave per year pro rata (including bank holidays and efficiency closures) • Generous Occupational Pension Scheme • Financial support towards teacher training course fees if you do not have a recognised Level 5 teaching qualification (Cert Ed/PGCE) * Progression beyond point 12 of the salary scale (£40,407) is subject to Tutors obtaining QTLS. Staff with Advanced Teacher Status (ATS) via the Society for Education and Training (SET) are eligible to receive an enhanced salary of £44,875 - ask us for further details About the role In this role, you will deliver high quality teaching in Art & Design with a focus on Graphic Visual Communication. You will support students in developing illustration techniques, visual storytelling skills, and both digital and traditional creative processes, including sketchbook development and printmaking. Contextual studies will be embedded into your studio teaching, helping learners connect theory with practical outcomes across a range of specialisms. You will design engaging lessons that reflect current industry practice, provide constructive feedback to support student progress, and maintain a creative, inclusive, and professional studio environment. A key aspect of the role will be guiding students as they build strong, progression ready portfolios for higher education or employment. About the Person The ideal candidate will hold a degree or equivalent qualification in Art & Design, Graphic Design, Illustration, or a related field, and will bring proven experience teaching or tutoring within the creative arts. You will have a strong portfolio demonstrating your skills in graphic visual communication and illustration, along with a good understanding of contextual and critical studies. We will ask to see your portfolio at the interview stage. You will have excellent communication skills and the ability to motivate and inspire learners from a range of backgrounds and abilities. Strong planning and assessment skills are essential, including experience providing IQA feedback and effectively stretching and challenging students to achieve high grades and meet progression goals. A teaching qualification such as a PGCE, relevant industry experience, and familiarity with digital design tools-including Adobe Creative Suite-are desirable. Experience supporting students with portfolio development for further or higher education, or for entry into creative industries, would also be an advantage.
