Delivery Suite Ward Manager

As the Band 7 Delivery Suite Ward Manager, you will have continuing responsibility while on duty to manage the Delivery Suite. This includes assessing care needs, developing, implementing, and evaluating programmes of care, and setting high standards. You will be at the forefront of innovative and evidence-based midwifery practice, providing professional leadership and supporting a passionate clinical team. The clinical element of this role focuses on intrapartum care, and is flexible to the post holder's skill set.
Main duties of the job
* Manage the Delivery Suite, ensuring exceptional care for all patients
* Develop, implement, and evaluate care programmes
* Set and maintain high standards of midwifery practice
* Provide professional leadership and support to the clinical team
* Oversee a dedicated team of staff, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement
* Collaborate closely with other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care
* Maintain a positive and effective learning environment for students and new staff members
* Support the Director of Midwifery/Clinical Midwifery Matron in achieving strategic objectives
* Act as the intrapartum team lead to cover the Spires co‑located MLU and Delivery Suite

Here in Oxfordshire, we offer women and healthcare professionals a unique set up of our Maternity Services where around 7200 babies are born annually. We have 4 stand‑alone Midwifery Led Birth units within the county based at Banbury, Chipping Norton, Wantage and Wallingford as well as offering home births to all areas. There is also an integrated birth unit where around 10% of birthing people choose to go in labour. As a large Tertiary hospital, the John Radcliffe offers a large Delivery Suite with an en‑suite birthing pool room, 3 Maternity theatres and a specific Maternity Recovery Ward. There are specialist services such as the Fetal and Maternal Medicine Team and Bereavement Team.
For those working with us, we have a named Maternity Psychologist 3 days a week to support all staff, as well as an ever‑expanding team of Professional Midwifery Advoc to provide pastoral support. For those wishing to develop their careers and skills, we have a core Practice Development Team who can guide staff with their career options and development opportunities. We strive to ensure every member of our team feels valued and to have the confidence to speak up and be heard.

Professional Qualifications
* Registered MIdwife with NMC
* Has a Midwifery or Nursing degree or equivalent experience
* Evidence of ongoing education development
* Significant experience within intrapartum care
* 3 years experience as a midwife
Experience
* Experience of clinical midwifery experience acquired through practice
* Ability to manage complex caseload
* Able to work as an advocate for women, families, and colleagues
Skills and Aptitude
* Demonstrable professional leadership and negotiating skills
* Ability to undertake audit
* IT skills i.e., report writing and data entry and analysis as necessary
* Knowledge of safe staffing and roster software
Personal Attributes
* Highly self-motivated, positive and enthusiastic
* Leadership skills and ability to motivate a team
* Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with the multi‑professional team
* Able to support staff to make judgements about clinical situations
* Ability to adapt behaviour to changing circumstances
Knowledge
* Detailed knowledge of current UK midwifery Issues
* Understanding of wider NHS agenda and drivers for change
* Knowledge of clinical governance processes
