We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 5 Qualified Education Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP) to join the Cambridge City and West Mental Health Support Team, based in Cambridge City Centre.
Applicants must be a qualified EMHP or will be fully qualified by March 2026, and registered with either the BPS or BABCP.
The role involves delivering evidence‑based early interventions to parents and young people within educational and health care settings, working alongside a multidisciplinary mental health team.
Job Purpose
To provide early interventions for children and young people with mild to moderate mental health difficulties, support families and staff, undertake assessments and risk management, and promote professional development and service improvement.
Responsibilities
* Deliver outcome‑focused, evidence‑based interventions to children, young people, parents and carers in school settings.
* Conduct holistic, child‑centred mental health assessments and risk formulations.
* Identify and refer more severe cases to specialist services and facilitate rapid access.
* Support and empower children, families and educators to manage mental health challenges.
* Work within inclusive values, respecting diversity and maintaining cultural competence.
* Accept referrals, run assessments, keep accurate records and adhere to safeguarding protocols.
* Escalate cases beyond scope of practice and signpost appropriate services.
* Provide guided self‑help and evidence‑based psychological treatments.
* Participate in multidisciplinary and multi‑agency meetings and case reviews.
* Maintain confidential clinical records in line with data protection and Information Governance.
* Contribute to research, audits and clinical governance activities.
* Use computers for literature search, remote intervention, data entry and reporting.
* Adhere to infection control, Trust risk assessment and other health & social care policies.
* Engage in regular clinical supervision, line management, safeguarding and emergency preparedness activities.
* Support training and development of staff to strengthen whole‑school mental health approach.
* Keep up‑to‑date personal development plans and continuous professional development records.
Qualifications & Training
* Qualified Education Mental Health Practitioner (Band 5) or expected qualification by March 2026.
* Registered with the British Psychological Society (BPS) or British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) (registration in progress accepted).
* Experience in education and/or health care settings, delivering mental health interventions.
* Sound knowledge of health, education and safeguarding policies, data protection and Information Governance.
* Ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Strong communication and record‑keeping skills.
