Tourism, Hospitality and Events Society
is an independent, non-profit, student led organization at University of Surrey for
students, alumni and industry professionals from the Tourism, Hospitality, Events, and Aviation industry to connect, collaborate and grow personally and professionally
We run multiple events and initiatives that bring people together. Throughout the year, we usually host networking events, careers evenings, alumni talks, careers fairs, debates, social events, start- and end-of-the-year celebrations, formal dinners and even a summer ball.
Job Title: Treasurer (Signatory Position)
Type: Part Time Volunteer
Location: University of Surrey
Start Date: Immediate
Requirement: Current student at UoS, enrolled in a course through Surrey Hospitality and Tourism Management (SHTM).
Responsibilites
As a Treasurer, you will be the financial anchor of T.H.E Soc. You will be working alongside the committee to manage funds responsibly, transparently, and strategically. You will be responsible for bookkeeping, tracking spending, and preparing income and balance sheets.
This is a signatory role, meaning you'll be one of the key decision-makers in the society, alongside the President and Vice-President. Your vote carries weight not just in financial matters, but across broader committee decisions.
Key Responsibilities will include:
* Managing the society's budget and maintaining accurate financial records.
* Assisting with event budgeting.
* Reporting regularly to the committee on financial status.
* Supporting financial planning for events and long-term initiatives.
* Participating in discussions and voting on important decisions.
What we are looking for:
* Confident with numbers and basic budgeting tools (e.g., Excel).
* Strong communication and accountability.
* A proactive mindset—ready to solve problems and suggest improvements.
* Familiarity with bookkeeping techniques (e.g. T-accounts, trial balance, income and balance sheets).
* No formal finance experience required—just a willingness to learn, lead, and apply accounting basics.
