Speech and Language Therapy JOB DESCRIPTION
We have exciting opportunities for locum speech and language therapists to work with children under 5 and their families in Tower Hamlets. This is a fantastic opportunity to be at the forefront of informing how central and local government improve outcomes and ways of working in SEND. Short-term funding from central government is enabling us to bolster our SaLT workforce during an 18-month pilot to improve our offer for children under 5 with emerging SEND and their families. The London Borough of Tower Hamlets and Barts Health NHS Trust are working together, with key partners, to lead these changes.
Your role within the team will include some or all of the following:
• running targeted-level groups with parents and children under 5, both in children and family centres and online
• assessing children under 5 with communication needs
• writing advice for education, health and care needs assessments
• delivering intervention for children under 5 with language difficulties
You will be supervised and supported by a senior Speech and Language Therapist from the community children’s therapies team in Tower Hamlets which is part of Barts Health NHS Trust. There will be opportunities for working alongside an expanding team of speech and language therapists, occupational therapists within the service and also work with other services including educational psychologists and Early Help professionals.
We are ideally looking for locums who want to work for an extended period of at least 6 months and are able to commit to at least 2 days a week most of the time.
Most of the work will be face to face in Tower Hamlets, but there are opportunities for flexible working arrangements e.g. working from home when running virtual targeted groups or writing reports. Tower Hamlets is a very diverse inner London borough easily accessible by public transport with a strong commitment to improving our SEND offer and strong working relationships between organisations.
Requirements:
· Right to Work in the UK
· Valid HCPC registration
· NQP (Newly Qualified Practitioner) competencies completed.
· Experience of working with children under 5 with communication difficulties and their families in the community
