Contract Opportunity: Mechanical Design Engineer (Outside IR35) Water Framework
Location: Stockport (Hybrid)
Contract Term: 12-month rolling (long-term project)
We're looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join a major water infrastructure program. This role offers the chance to work on complex projects that shape the future of clean and wastewater systems across the UK.
What You'll Do
Develop mechanical designs that meet stringent safety and quality standards.
Produce detailed calculations and technical drawings for water-related assets.
Provide leadership and guidance to CAD technicians.
Define scopes of work and review outputs from subcontracted design teams.
Collaborate with suppliers, prepare specifications, and evaluate technical proposals.
Deliver design reports, investigations, and supporting documentation.
Ensure compliance with industry standards and project governance.
Manage design changes and maintain accurate records throughout the project lifecycle.
Estimate resource requirements and contribute to planning.
Represent the design team in meetings and technical presentations.
What We're Looking For
At least 5 years' mechanical design experience within the UK water sector.
Strong background in both clean water and wastewater projects.
Solid understanding of hydraulic design principles.
Familiarity with construction techniques and engineering drawing standards.
Excellent problem-solving skills and technical expertise.
Strong communication and ability to mentor others.
