Area Visitor Services Manager
Job description
We’re looking for an Area Visitor Services Manager to join our Visitor Services Team in the South Region. You’ll be based in the Scottish Borders, with responsibility for delegated sites in the Tweed Valley and our key 7stanes destinations at Glentress, Innerleithen and Newcastleton.
Forestry and Land Scotland manages some of the country’s most iconic outdoor destinations, including Tweed Valley & Galloway Forest Parks, Galloway Dark Sky Park, the 7stanes mountain biking centres, and the Galloway & Southern Ayrshire Biosphere. Our Visitor Services Team is responsible for ensuring safe, enjoyable, and high-quality experiences for all who visit, by managing walking and cycling trails, engaging with communities, supporting events, and working with partners across the region to provide diverse recreation opportunities.
As an Area Visitor Services Manager, you’ll play a vital role in overseeing the management and maintenance of visitor facilities across your area. You’ll lead on the facility maintenance programme, oversee regular site inspections, and contribute as part of the Regional Visitor Services Management Team to develop and improve recreation opportunities across the estate.
To be successful, you’ll need experience of managing recreation or visitor facilities to a high standard, strong knowledge of health, safety and environmental management, and proven ability to lead and motivate teams. You’ll also need strong interpersonal and organisational skills, experience working with a wide range of stakeholders, and a commitment to delivering excellent visitor experiences.
We are particularly keen to hear from candidates with an interest in mountain biking, and especially those with experience in the development and management of MTB trails – though this is not essential.
This role will involve regular weekend working as part of a duty rota, with some evening and public holiday work, as well as occasional travel throughout the region and overnight stays.
