Consultant Psychiatrist in Intellectual Disability/Forensic Psychiatry


Job overview

The post holder will be a Consultant Forensic or Intellectual Disability Psychiatrist and will lead on the care of seven male inpatients on Tweed Hospital Based Rehabilitation Ward/Bungalows at Northgate Park. In addition, they will provide medical AC cover to four inpatients and will manage a small caseload of patients currently subject to the MM ruling with plans to review for supervised discharge. They will also conduct a weekly (or fortnightly) prison clinic at one of the local prisons.


Main duties of the job

The candidate will manage seven (plus four medical AC) inpatients – four are based on Tweed Rehab ward and three are based at Mitford bungalows. The MM caseload will be regularly reviewed via job planning due to the recent introduction of supervised discharges. The prison clinic site can be negotiated to suit the preferences of the candidate.

Knowledge

* Up to date knowledge in the field of Psychiatry.
* Awareness of current issues and controversies in service provision, mental health policy and legislation.
* An area of special interest relevant to the post as demonstrated by publications or presentations to learned societies.


Experience

* Experience of multidisciplinary team working.
* Wide clinical experience in forensic or LD psychiatry in different clinical settings.
* Experience of Clinical Audit.
* Experience in multiagency work especially with service user, carer and voluntary agencies.
* Experience in service management or development.


Skills

* High level of clinical skills.
* Able to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Proven competence in diagnosis and management of psychiatric disorders in forensic and LD Psychiatry.
* Excellent teaching skills.
* Demonstrate the ability to work in a time efficient manner.
* Established record of clinical leadership.
* Established ability as a clinical teacher.
* Training in specific and relevant treatment skills e.g. a brief form of psychological therapy.

* Able to sustain self and support others.
* Trustworthiness.
* Able to meet the mobility requirements of the post.
* Maturity, openness and flexibility.
