TheRadiology Service delivers a diagnostic and treatment service forapproximately 600,000 patients a year on 6 sites, the Ultrasound departmentis a major contributor to these examinations.

Thejob holder will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team in the ULTRASOUNDdepartment, carrying out policies and procedures as specified by the Trustand Radiology Management Team. They will undertake a wide range of duties toclinically support the Sonographers and Radiologists and be primarilyresponsible for the care of patients attending for Ultrasound examinations.

Dutieswill include assisting staff with interventional procedures such as biopsiesand injections and adhering to aseptic techniques.

Chaperoningis a key part of the role. Patients attending the department can range fromthe unconscious to the fully mobile with uncooperative, incapacitated,anaesthetised, partially resuscitated, disorientated patients and those withspecial needs, physical and mental disabilities. Some patients can exhibitantisocial or threatening behaviour.

Thepost holder will work to departmental protocols and schemes of work,including administrative tasks.

Thejob holder may occasionally be required to work at any site with a smallcommitment to weekend work.

Effectivecommunication is paramount with both the patient and other Team members toensure the department runs safely and effective.

Main duties of the job

Therole involves a large clinical component which includes general help andassisting the Sonographer/Radiologist throughout the patients Ultrasoundexamination.

Thedaily role involves escorting patients in and out of the examination roomsand preparing the patient for the Ultrasound examination. This involvesassisting with moving and handling of the patients who are immobile in amanner that is safe for all concerned.

Youwill be asked to chaperone patients, offering reassurance and staying inattendance with difficult patients and intimate examinations.

Animportant part of the role involves caring for the patients during andfollowing interventional ultrasound procedures, which includes preparingtrolleys and conducting aseptic technique whilst caring for the patient.

Thereis an element of administrative tasks to include registering the patient,updating patient records, bookings, extraction of work lists and all otherassociated RIS activities. Answering and dealing with telephone calls is adaily task.

Youwill be responsible for maintaining high standards of cleanliness of clinicalequipment/ultrasound rooms, to minimise the spread of infection. You willalso be required to monitor and order stock within the department.

Therole is varied and you will be expected to help in all of the above areas.

TheUltrasound department can be extremely busy & the work can beunpredictable/fast paced but the Team is supportive & inclusive. Thisrole is very niche & the main aim is to assist & facilitate asmooth/efficient running of the department & not to be directly involvedwith undertaking the Ultrasound examination.

Theshifts are mainly weekdays, there are no night shifts to be covered just asmall commitment to weekend/ evening work.
