About the Role
We are looking for a motivated and reliable Cover Supervisor to join our supportive team at a well-established secondary school in Stoke-on-Trent. This is a fantastic opportunity for a graduate or someone looking to gain valuable classroom experience before pursuing a career in teaching, particularly those interested in applying for a PGCE or other teaching qualifications.
As a Cover Supervisor, you will be responsible for supervising classes in the absence of the class teacher, ensuring students remain on task, manage their behaviour, and complete set work in a safe and productive environment. You will play a key role in supporting students' learning and development, helping to maintain a positive atmosphere in the classroom.
Key Responsibilities
* Supervise and manage classes of students in the absence of the class teacher
* Ensure students remain engaged with the work set and follow instructions
* Support students in their learning by providing guidance and assistance where appropriate
* Maintain classroom discipline and a positive learning environment
* Provide feedback to teachers on student progress and any issues that arise during cover lessons
* Assist with administrative tasks and preparation of teaching resources as required
* Support the wider school community by participating in school events and activities
The Ideal Candidate
* A graduate in any subject area (preferably related to education or a subject taught in secondary school)
* An interest in pursuing a career in teaching and/or applying for a PGCE
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage a classroom effectively
* A positive, enthusiastic approach to working with young people
* Ability to remain calm and organised, even in challenging situations
* Strong organisational skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team
* Previous experience working with young people (in any capacity) is beneficial but not essential
