An exciting opportunity has arisen for a HCPC registered (or working towards) Senior Clinical Scientist to join our Biochemistry team at UHB which includes 3 Consultant Clinical Scientists, 1 Consultant Chemical Pathologist, 4 Principal Clinical Scientists, 11 Senior Clinical Scientists (including this post) and 3 STP trainees. We have excellent links with the University of Birmingham and are involved in the provision of the programme for STPs.
The UHB Biochemistry department is strong clinically and analytically providing a wide range of services including specialist chromatography, mass spectrometry and radio immunoassay techniques. There are automation laboratories across four hospital sites (Heartlands, Good Hope, Solihull and Queen Elizabeth hospitals), with the automation laboratories at QE and Heartlands sites being large, state of the art laboratories fitted with Abbott pre-analytics, Abbott Alinity platforms and tracks.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be required to primarily work in our specialist testing laboratory on the Queen Elizabeth site however a degree of cross site working is to be expected. They will be required to liaise closely with the Operations Manager and Principal Clinical Scientist for that section to provide high quality analyses over an extensive repertoire. You will be expected to play a significant part in developing, growing and optimising the service. The department has a national reputation for specialist endocrinology and TDM investigations using various techniques including mass spectrometry. Experience of chromatography, mass spectrometry and FR-IR is desirable. The post holder will also be expected to contribute to the clinical support activities of the department by participating in the duty biochemist rota.
