Sunflower House Tier 4 Inpatient Unit based at Alder Hey Childrens hospital are seeking to recruit a clinical ward manager on a 12 months fixed term contract covering maternity leave. The clinical ward manager is responsible for the management and leadership of a team of nursing health professionals. Managerial accountability for the delivery of nursing care to patients on the ward providing care over a 24-hour period including responsibility for assessment planning, implementation and evaluation of care for the patients within their sphere of responsibility. Previous applicants need not apply Main duties of the job • To collaborate with the relevant Trust personnel and support the Modern Matron to ensure a culture of effective risk management and safe working practices - encompassing clinical and environmental requirements. • To ensure all approaches to care and treatment are in line with a trauma informed and human rights-based approach and least restrictive principles, whilst bearing in mind clinical risk and evidence based best practice. • To keep abreast of clinical developments in relation to the specialty and disseminate such knowledge to other service staff. • To act as role model and knowledge resource to the nursing and support team. • To represent the clinical area in all relevant forums and meetings. • Ensure that appropriate programmes of care are implemented on the ward and that the needs of the patients are met. • To administer medication within NMC guidelines and the Trusts Medicines Code. • To work in partnership with other agencies to gain the best person centred outcomes for the patients in our care. About us Sunflower House (previously Dewi Jones Unit). Sunflower House is a tier 4 mental health unit for children and young people up to the age of 13, serving the local population and children across the country. Previously based in Waterloo, the team have moved into a new purpose-built facility at Alder Hey- the new building has 12 specially designed bedrooms and a family bedroom, providing a safe and high-quality space to stay. We also have a new therapy garden, a calming sensory room (that can be used to prepare young people for the outside world) an immersive room, a de-stimulation room, a safe kitchen environment (to learn cooking and other life skills), group therapy rooms and classrooms. We have a highly skilled multi-disciplinary team including nurses, social workers, family therapists, psychotherapists, psychiatrists. With Quality Network for Inpatient CAMHS (QNIC) accreditation we are focused on developing the very best outcomes for children and young people. As well as offering inpatient care, the team offer consultation and advice for CYP across the country who require enhanced CAMHS treatment packages. Person Specification Essential • Registered Nurse RMN/RNLD • Significant experience at band 6/7 in relevant setting to the post • Understanding of the management of violence and aggression, positive behavioural support and functional analysis • Experience in developing and changing clinical practice • Experience and knowledge of supervision and appraisal of nurses and healthcare support workers. • Good understanding of the Mental Health Act • Good understanding of relevant legislation associated with care of children with mental health needs in an inpatient setting: Eg, CPA, Human Rights Act, NSF, Safeguarding. • Evidence of continued professional development. • Knowledge of agencies to support patients and their families. • Communicate effectively with children/young people and their families. • Communicate effectively with colleagues • Provide written and verbal information in a precise, timely and legible manner. • Robust risk assessment and risk management skills. • Proven ability to maintain a balance between strategic and operational support. • Innovative, creative, and willing to try new things and ideas. • Demonstrates the ability to make sound judgments and generate new ideas in complex situations.
