About our School

Situated in the lovely setting of Glengorse Estate in Battle, East Sussex ISP School provides specialist education for - year-olds with social, emotional, and mental health difficulties (SEMH), communication and interaction, cognition, and learning needs.

Our mission is to provide each child with a diverse and appropriate education in a safe, supportive environment that promotes self-discipline and engagement, inspires learning, and encourages aspiration and achievement.

We are currently seeking a SENCO to join our team.

Role responsibilities

1. Determine the strategic development of special educational needs (SEN) policy and provision in the school
2. Aid in the designing and delivering of extra interventions to reduce the attainment gaps
3. Assess and monitor the progress of pupils in line with their EHCP’s
4. Hold annual reviews, PEPS and Network meetings
5. Be a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead
6. Attend multi agency meetings and lead on Early Help
7. Hold the designated teacher position for looked after children, attending meetings
8. Liaising alongside the Head Teacher, Tutor, Class Teachers and parents to support individual learning plans
9. Be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the SEN policy and co-ordination of SEN policy and co-ordination of specific provisions to support individual pupils with SEN or a disability
10. Maintain accurate records
11. Provide support to colleagues in developing effective teaching programmes and positive behaviour management techniques around individual children
12. Oversee and preparing annual reviews
13. Work closely with the Tutor to ensure that the appropriate professionals ae involved with the pupil’s development and mental health needs
14. Be aware of the provision in the local offer
15. Work with early years providers, other schools, educational psychologists, health and social care professionals, and other external agencies
16. Be a key point of contact for external agencies, especially the local authority
17. Analyse assessment data for pupils with SEN or a disability
18. Implement and lead intervention groups for pupils with SEN, and evaluate their effectiveness
19. Co-ordinate provision that meets the pupil’s needs, and monitor its effectiveness
20. Secure relevant services for the pupil
21. Communicate regularly with parents or carers
22. Ensure that if the pupil transfers to or from another school, all relevant information is conveyed to it, and supports a smooth transition for the pupil
23. Promote the pupil’s inclusion in the school community and access to the curriculum, facilities, and extra-curricular activities
24. To lead on tribunal cases
25. To lead on referrals/consultations.
26. Work with the Head Teacher and Tutor, assisting in transitions and consultations
27. Cover classes where appropriate during Teacher absence
28. Small teaching commitment

Requirements

29. Qualified Teacher Status
30. National Award for SEN Co-ordination, or a willingness to complete it within years of appointment
31. Previous involvement in school self-evaluation and development planning
32. Previous experience of teaching in an Autism/SEMH School
33. Experience in conducting training/leading INSET
34. Sound knowledge of the SEND Code of Conduct
35. Committed to professional development and willing to learn
