SCAS continues to be a leader in innovative health care delivery focused on delivering the right care at the right time to our patients. We are committed to delivering high levels of expert, prehospital healthcare and lead the way with urgent care service delivery.

Key to the delivery of these services will be through our specialist clinical roles, one of which is the role of Clinical Practice Educator (CPE) This role helps us to provide high quality mentorship, clinical leadership and education to our Team of Trainee Specialist Practitioners/Newly Qualified Specialist Practitioners and our Qualified SP team. We aim to provide patient focused care and to support clinical leadership across the operational teams. We are therefore seeking applications from registered Paramedics who have the relevant pre-hospital operational clinical experience and hold a Specialist Qualification or equivalent.

We are looking for a qualified specialist practitioner, who is enthusiastic, dynamic and highly motivated. Applicants need to be excellent communicators with effective influencing, negotiating skills and mentoring skills. You must hold a Level 6 Mentoring qualification or equivalent teaching qualification. The role includes clinical shifts working across all areas of our operational frontline and collaborative projects both internal and external.


Main duties of the job

This exciting role will provide high quality mentorship and support to an area team as part of the Specialist Practice Leadership Team within SCAS. This role will also involve collaborative and portfolio working opportunities, across a multitude of urgent and primary care settings and internal projects. The role also includes working within our clinical communications centres and 111 to give clinical advice in connection with calls directly linked to our 999 work.

Clinical Practice Educators will use their knowledge and skills to provide clinical mentorship and educational support to Trainee SPs whilst they undertake their University modules and supported shifts working both frontline and within clinical collaborative partnerships. They will also support NQSPs whilst they complete their SP portfolio.

Corporate Induction
It’s really important for us to ensure you have the best onboarding experience which allows you to feel a sense of belonging from the start. To help with this, we will book your Corporate Induction as soon as we possibly can (depending on availability).
All new starters need to attend our *Corporate Induction in person, this is held over one and half days from our educational centres based in: Newbury (Berkshire), Bicester (Oxfordshire) or Whiteley (Hampshire). More specific details will be sent to you once your start date has been confirmed.
*Please note – depending on your role additional training may be required following on from your corporate induction.


Detailed job description and main responsibilities

As a CPE you will self roster your working time. You will be expected to work as required to support your team and this will include shifts across the shift pattern your team works in both frontline and collaborative projects. You will work as part of an area SP Leadership Team.

The CPEs also work as an independent clinician and would be responsible for the care of the patient including assessment, diagnosis, treatment, discharge and/or referral. The CPE will be responsible for administering and supplying medicines, in line with Patient Group Directions/Medicines management policy.

You will be expected to demonstrate evidence of taking personal responsibility for your own professional development, clinical leadership in an operational environment and have a strong desire to support and guide colleagues in other clinical roles. Applicants should be able to display sound clinical knowledge including evidence of history taking and clinical triage in a sensitive manner, providing assessment, advice and treatment in line with clinical protocols and using professional judgement, and to show that they can work as part of a team or autonomously.

Short listed candidates will be required to attend a panel interview and to undertake a clinical assessment/presentation, as well as providing evidence of their CPD portfolio.

Education & Qualifications


Essential criteria

* Master’s degree or Post Graduate qualification in a relevant field.
* Hold a relevant and recognised Post Graduate advanced practice qualification (Level 6 or 7) in Minor Illness and Injury
* Professional body registration; HCPC or NMC.
* Full UK driving licence (C1 not essential).
* Level 3 IHCD or FutureQuals emergency driving qualification (D1, D2)
* Must have experience and exposure in working at a Band 7 role for a minimum of 2 years.
* Willingness to undertake further development to become an independent prescriber.
* A recognised teaching qualification or equivalent demonstrable ability with evidence of teaching in practice and/ or classroom situations.
* Mentoring and coaching; minimum of level 6 (certificate) or significant demonstrable development of mentoring and coaching skills through formal learning and application.


Desirable criteria

* Independent prescribing qualification
* Leadership qualification; minimum level 6
* Resuscitation Council UK – Advanced Life Support Provider
* Resuscitation Council UK / ALSG – APALS / EPALS Provider
* Diploma in Primary & Urgent Care


Knowledge and Experience


Essential criteria

* Significant experience of working in an Emergency or Urgent Care environment.
* Demonstrated & maintains an up to date working knowledge of all clinical and technical procedures appropriate to this role.
* Demonstrate experience of mentoring
* Demonstrate experience of dealing with staff at all levels.
* Demonstrate experience of liaison with external stakeholders and institutions
* Good knowledge of Clinical Audit relevant to this post, demonstrates previous ability to undertake personal reviews of practice.


Desirable criteria

* Knowledge of National Health Service Framework issues
* Experience of delivering projects.
