Job title: Mechanical Technician (Ref 40917)
Location: Oxford Sewage Treatment Works, OX4 4YU.
Contract: Permanent Full/Part-time Full-time, 38 hours a week, Monday – Friday, 7:30 am – 3:36 pm. After training, rotates to shift pattern including Monday–Sunday early/day/late/night shifts with additional pay.
Salary: Competitive up to £39,000 per annum depending on skills and experience.
Responsibilities
* Carry out scheduled planned maintenance work on mechanical equipment in compliance with company standards and procedures.
* Maintain technical equipment such as pumps, chemical dosing equipment, gearboxes, high‑pressure systems, gas systems, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, valves, motors, generators, drive belts, conveyors, scrapers and associated control gear.
* Investigate plant failures and carry out repairs quickly and efficiently to avoid process interruptions, including diagnosing complex faults and repairing during incidents.
* Provide technical advice to the wider team and support or train technical trainees as required.
* Perform lifting operations safely as per LOLER regulations.
* Support the design and build of new processes.
* Proactively review health and availability of assets on site.
* Ensure all relevant training, including mechanical and maintenance training, is up to date.
* Work safely and comply with all health and safety guidance and procedures.
Qualifications
* Time‑served apprentice with significant experience in mechanical systems, holding an NVQ or C&G Level 3 in mechanical engineering.
* Experience working on large industrial plant equipment, including pumps in the utility industry, is beneficial.
* Knowledge and awareness of health and safety issues.
* Valid driving licence.
* Will be required to participate in a 24/7 out‑of‑hours standby rota after suitable training and assessment, with additional payment.
