Job Summary
Are you a commercially minded legal professional with a passion for navigating complex legal landscapes? We are looking for a qualified Swedish lawyer to join GKN Engines legal team in Trollhättan, Sweden, as a Legal Counsel, supporting a broad range of commercial and compliance matters across our business and provide support to the Head of Legal for GKN Aerospace Engines.
As a Legal Counsel, you will play a key role in advising on and negotiating commercial agreements, supporting compliance initiatives, and providing strategic legal guidance to internal stakeholders. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure legal integrity while enabling business growth. You will report to Head of Legal for GKN Aerospace Engines and be part of the Melrose/GKN Aerospace Group’s Global Legal Team.
Key responsibilities
1. Draft, review, and negotiate a wide variety of commercial contracts (e.g., procurement, sales, partnerships, licensing).
2. Advise on regulatory and compliance matters, including data protection, anti-corruption, and competition law.
3. Support internal investigations and risk assessments.
4. Develop and deliver training on legal and compliance topics.
5. Monitor legal developments and assess their impact on the business.
6. Collaborate with external counsel when needed
7. Act as a local Legal contact point, together with Head of Legal, for our main manufacturing plant in Trollhättan, Sweden.
8. Work frequently with other members of the Legal team or broader GKN Aerospace organisation on a matrix basis. You will need to be team-orientated, flexible and show sound judgement when dealing with organisational ambiguity
9. You will be open and willing to continuously improve your legal and non-legal skills
10. You will proactively seek opportunities to collaborate within and support the development of the Legal function
Qualifications/ Experience/ Skills/ Profile
• Swedish law degree (LL.M or equivalent) and bar admission.
• 3+ years of relevant legal experience, preferably from a law firm or in-house legal department.
• Strong understanding of Swedish and EU commercial and regulatory frameworks.
• Excellent communication skills in Swedish and English.
• Business-oriented mindset with a proactive and pragmatic approach.
• Ability to recognise which issues need escalating to the Head of Legal or Senior Counsel.
• Ability to collaborate with the business and all functions.
• Integrity and courage; able to adapt own behaviour and communication style to suit the context, including sensitively delivering tough messages.
