Band 6 Senior Staff Nurse - ITU Critical Care Harefield Hospital
Main tasks & responsibilities: Patient/customer care (both direct & indirect). To lead the provision of care in accordance with the Trust Policies, reflecting current trends and developments in nursing and the NHS. In conjunction with the staff team, to assist in developing and maintaining the Ward/Department ethos and delivering a standard approach to excellent nursing care.
To assess, plan, implement, and evaluate programmes of care, actively seeking evidence-based practices to improve quality and meet patient needs. A holistic approach should be planned, including physiological, pathological, spiritual, socio-economic, and cultural aspects that influence client care within your specialty.
Implement a nursing plan for an assigned group of patients, indicating assessment and re-assessment for individual care pathways, including discharge planning. Contribute to setting goals and benchmarking standards of care. Develop tools to improve service quality and coordinate clinical services across the ward/department.
To comply with and participate in the Trust's framework for Clinical Governance. To take charge of the clinical area, utilizing resources effectively, and ensuring safe staffing levels. Provide a safe environment for staff, patients, and relatives, and identify clinical risks, ensuring appropriate action is taken.
Record and report incidents/complaints involving staff, patients, and visitors, leading investigations as required. Monitor nursing care quality and act on audit information to meet standards. Ensure nursing documentation is maintained to Trust standards, including electronic records.
Promote customer care initiatives and act as a resource for advice to patients, relatives, and staff. Promote a healthy lifestyle in line with national strategies. Support sharing of good practice, provide clinical supervision, delegate tasks, and maintain effective communication within the team.
Contribute to policy development and participate in staff education, development, and appraisal. Assist in recruitment, retention, and service development activities. Help manage resources effectively, ensuring appropriate staffing and skill mix, and model flexible duty rostering.
Identify areas for audit, conduct analysis, and contribute to research data collection. Maximize team potential and ensure staff appraisals and personal development plans are meaningful. Provide a safe working environment and represent the clinical area in various groups and conferences.
