Offer description

To work alongside the General, Fluoroscopic and Theatre Superintendent to integrate the General x-ray services for Ashford and St Peter's Hospitals NHS Trust.

To participate in the A&E and out of hours services

To participate in the training of Band 5 Radiographers, student Radiographers and assistant practitioners.

To work in conjunction with the General, Fluoroscopic and Theatre Superintendent to improve service delivery and service improvement for the benefit of the patient.

To maintain high clinical standards, particularly regarding patient care, clinical risk and Health and Safety.

To liaise with other Health Care Professionals and departmental staff daily to ensure the optimal care for patients.

To continue to develop one's own knowledge, practice and development through continued professional development.

To maintain clinical expertise by rotating through other imaging service areas.

To understand the implications of the Health and Safety at Work Act and ensure a safe working environment for patients, staff, visitors and staff according to the Trusts' Health and Safety Policy

To undertake General, Fluoroscopic and Theatre examinations regularly, ensuring high technical and professional standards.

To prepare the patient for diagnostic examinations and fulfil the requirements of correct patient identification, confidentiality and data protection.

To maintain and enhance clinical expertise by rotating regularly to other imaging service areas and to carry out imaging examinations.

To provide a personal and patient focused X-ray service.

To assist, train and supervise staff in General, Fluoroscopic and Theatre examinations as appropriate and to provide leadership and motivation.

To induct imaging staff to the working of the X-ray areas with special attention to fire alarms and evacuation procedures.

To liaise with consultants, nursing, clerical and other staff within the hospitals for the benefits of patient care.

To assist with the day to day running of the computer system and help with computer training.

Ensure the fabric of the department and the patient waiting areas are in good and safe working order and to arrange repairs as required.

To report any equipment malfunction immediately to the Line Manager and to organise repairs where appropriate.

To deal with patients' enquiries/complaints in the first instance and to provide details to the Operations Service Manager for a formal response to the Imaging Services manager.

Ensure departmental and housekeeping protocols and practice are maintained to prevent hospital acquired infection.

To adhere to the Code of Practice for ionising radiation (IR(ME)R Regulations) and the local rules for radiation safety.

To deputise for the line manager, when necessary, take charge and prioritise the departmental workload to ensure the efficient running of the x-ray department.

To show initiative in generating new ideas and methods of working to promote and enhance best practice and help achieve the radiological department and trusts long term goals.

To be trained in cannulation, venepuncture and the administration of contrast media.

To participate in the on out of hours system as appropriate.

Will be expected to participate in the extended working day rota.

Education

To maintain a personal continuous professional development, training and education portfolio in a proactive manner.

To participate in education, training and induction programmes.

Maintain continued competency in emergency resuscitation, manual handling techniques and fire regulations. To attend the appropriate training as required by the Trust.

To participate in individual performance reviews and personal development.

To assist the Line Manager in performing individual performance reviews with members of the radiology staff.

Clinical Governance

To assist the General, Fluoroscopic and Theatre Superintendent with Quality Assurance Programmes such as Health & Safety, COSHH, Radiation Protection, Equipment Maintenance and Risk Assessment.

To participate in and contribute to clinical audit and clinical governance.

To assist in the programme for risk assessment and action planning in relation to health and safety, risk management, etc to ensure the wellbeing of all staff.

To assist the General, Fluoroscopic and Theatre Superintendent with the ongoing programme of clinical and departmental audit, clinical governance and quality improvements.

To support the department and organisation by carrying out any other duties that reasonably fit within the broad scope of a job of this grad
