About The Division
The Water Consultancy Division is Mott MacDonald’s centre of excellence for responding to water and wastewater challenges, offering opportunities to work on diverse and technically challenging projects. Our work supports safe water supplies for future generations and environmental protection. Our multi-disciplinary teams provide services throughout the full project life cycle, from advisory services and feasibility studies through design to construction support and site supervision.
Overview Of The Role
We have a strong track record in providing flood risk services. Our teams model, design and deliver flood management schemes globally and have worked on award-winning schemes such as the Leeds Flood Alleviation Scheme. We complete Flood Risk Assessments for new developments and lead in delivering Nature Based Solutions for flood risk management. We also work with Dam Engineers on reservoir flood studies. The role offers a path for career development with mentoring and training and opportunities to take on more responsibilities.
Examples Of Your Contributions
* Developing hydraulic models using tools such as Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, HEC-RAS and ICM to support Flood Alleviation Schemes, Flood Risk Assessments and reservoir flood studies
* Analyzing data with ArcGIS, QGIS, Python, and Microsoft Excel
* Producing high quality client reports
* Undertaking hydrological assessments including Flood Estimation Handbook, ReFH2 and WINFAP
Alongside your technical role, you will have the opportunity to develop skills in project management and business development, mentor junior staff, and collaborate with our Water Resources and Flooding sub-sector teams.
Candidate specification
Essential
* Experience in delivering flood risk management studies
* Experience using hydraulic modelling software
* Degree level qualification in hydrology, geography, mathematics, civil engineering, or related discipline
* Good communication and written skills
* Well organised and able to prioritise your own workload with minimal supervision
* Understand the importance of prioritising health, safety and environmental issues
Desirable
* Professional consultancy experience in flood modelling and flood risk management
* Working towards chartership with an appropriate professional body (e.g. ICE, CIWEM, IMA)
* Experience in managing flood risk studies
* Knowledge of flood modelling software such as Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, HECRAS or ICM
* Knowledge of ArcGIS, QGIS and Python
