Geotechnical Engineer – Plymouth
We are seeking a dynamic Geotechnical Engineer to join our Ground Engineering team in Plymouth. The role involves technical design, project delivery and client engagement across multiple sectors.
Job Duties
* Delivery: Manage tasks and assist the team with delivery of projects, ensuring technical quality and adherence to budget and programme.
* Provide Expertise: Active input into team/client technical review meetings, owning decisions and proposing alternative ideas and concepts.
* Commercial: Maintain high client satisfaction, respond to client requirements, and support development of fee proposals and bids.
* Mentoring: Own personal and professional development and on‑the‑job mentoring of junior staff.
Qualifications
* BEng/MEng in Civil Engineering or BSc/MSc in Geotechnical Engineering.
* Chartered Engineer (IEng/CEng) status desirable or plan to achieve.
* Knowledge of UK ground conditions and ground investigation practices.
* Understanding of current design codes, standards and best practices in geotechnical design.
* Collaboration skills in project delivery, work‑winning and maintaining client satisfaction.
* Knowledge of ground condition interpretation and parametric assessment for typical geotechnical design problems.
* Familiarity with data‑management software (e.g., gINT, Open Ground) advantageous.
* Experience in geotechnical design (earthworks, foundations, retaining structures, slope stabilisation) with analytical skills and relevant design software (e.g., Slope/W, Wallap).
* Familiarity with production of geotechnical analysis and design packages, including drawings, risk assessments, specifications and design reports.
* Application of CDM Regulations/Safety in Design.
* Experience with standards and processes in specialised fields (highways, railways) desirable.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Experience in design, specification and management of ground investigation.
* Clean driving licence.
* Willingness to travel throughout the UK.
