Position Summary
We are looking for a midwife with experience in all aspects of maternity care, who is enthusiastic, self‑motivated and committed to providing a high quality service. This role is a maternity leave cover for the Labour Ward Manager within the Maternity Services and includes both managerial and a small clinical element, possibly as a Labour Ward Coordinator.
Responsibilities
* Provide professional and managerial leadership to all staff working in the delivery suite.
* Support midwives to develop, update and extend their practice within the Labour Suite and Obstetric Theatre.
* Demonstrate excellence in clinical practice and ward management, providing leadership while fulfilling a caring and teaching function.
* Coordinate shifts on the Labour Ward.
* Ensure availability of adequate resources for effective intrapartum care.
* Assist in setting, developing and monitoring standards and policies to ensure services meet the changing needs of obstetric and midwifery practice.
* Demonstrate effective leadership and management skills and promote a proactive approach.
* Act as an expert midwifery practitioner, working flexibly throughout the Maternity Service within the current shift system.
* Communicate complex, sometimes difficult information to mothers, families and colleagues in a clear and appropriate manner, including writing excellent patient notes and producing clear and effective reports.
* Support the Deputy Head of Midwifery in maintaining and improving high standards of care and achieving safety and governance objectives across Women and Children’s Services.
