Overview
Hydrologist - Senior/Principal (WINEP and Water Resources) in the UK, joining the Sustainable Water Management team to lead and contribute to Water Industry Natural Environment Programme (WINEP) and Water Resources Management Plan (WRMP) projects across the UK.
What you will do
* Lead and contribute to high-profile WINEP and WRMP projects for multiple UK water companies, with opportunities to work on Environmental Destination projects as AMP8 progresses.
* Support development of hydrology for WRMPs and provide water resources and hydrology consulting across related sectors.
* Supervise small hydrology teams, mentor junior colleagues, and pursue formal People Management opportunities.
* Deliver high-quality client and regulator-facing deliverables with strong attention to detail and quality assurance.
* Collaborate across disciplines to deliver hydrological components of diverse and challenging projects.
* Utilise programming skills (e.g., Python and/or R) where applicable, and develop these skills further.
What we will be looking for you to demonstrate
* Track record contributing to hydrological and water management elements of WINEP investigations and WRMP inputs in recent AMP cycles.
* Experience developing rainfall-runoff models (e.g., GR6J) with solid model calibration understanding.
* Strong understanding of wider hydrology approaches for England and Wales, including flow naturalisation/decomposition and reservoir mass balance modelling.
* Familiarity with demand management and water resources modelling tools (e.g., Aquator, PyWR, MISER).
* Good understanding of UK water resources management regulations, including WINEP guidance (Preventing Deterioration, Environmental Destination) and Water Resources Planning Guidelines.
* Knowledge of climate change resilience assessment, including familiarity with UKCP18 data products.
* Chartered or working towards chartership with a relevant professional body; supervisory or People Management experience is desirable.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills for concise client and stakeholder reporting.
Qualifications
* A water-focused MSc (e.g., hydrology & water resources, sustainable water management) and a related BSc (e.g., physical geography, earth sciences, geology, civil engineering).
* You will have gained, or be working towards, chartership with a relevant professional body.
