Locum Consultant in Infectious Diseases & Acute Medicine/ Microbiology

To provide an exceptional level of care for our patients presenting with infectious disease problems, in an outpatient and inpatient environment. The appointee will join 3 Consultant Infectious Disease Consultants alongside 15 Acute Medicine Consultants. To provide clinical leadership in acute medical patient care between Infectious Diseases and Acute Medicine Services or Microbiology.
Main duties of the job
Delivering a comprehensive in/outpatient service within Infectious Diseases and Acute Medicine.
Diagnosis and treatment of patients with infectious diseases.
Continuing clinical responsibility for the patients in your charge allowing for all proper delegating to and training of your staff.
Diagnosis and treatment of patients occupying accommodation, made available under section 58, 65 and 66 of the National Health Act 1977, in so far as such patients have not made private arrangements for such treatment under section 65(2) of the Act.
Lead a team providing an agreed service.
To work with colleagues in other professions within the Infectious Disease/ Acute Medicine field and to contribute a Consultant Medical role to inter-disciplinary work.
Clinical supervision of junior medical staff based in all Acute Medicine areas
Specialty triage of patients and safe discharge of patients when appropriate.
Leading the Trust in areas related to antimicrobial prescribing and stewardship, infection control and pandemic planning.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Entry on Specialist Register in General Medicine and Infectious Diseases (or entry expected within 6 months from the date of interview). Or in Infectious Disease and Microbiology.
* MRCP or equivalent
* Full GMC Registration
* Higher Medical Degree PhD/MD
* Experience and interest in specialised aspects of infectious diseases to complement colleagues
Experience
* Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining entry on the General Medical Council (GMC) Specialist Register via one of the following: a.Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) (the proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of the interview) b.Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) c.European Community Rights
* Ability to offer expert clinical opinion in a range of problems within specialty
* Ability to take full and independent responsibility for the care of patients
* Infectious diseases experience
* Higher training in a dedicated specialty training scheme.
Academic Achievements
* Ability to use the evidence base and clinical audit to support decision-making.
* Experience of conducting clinical audit.
* Ability to understand and apply re-search methodology
* Experience in teaching particularly of undergraduates
* Research/publications in general or specialist

* Ability to organise and manage workload
