About Julia’s House

Julia’s House is your local children’s hospice, caring for the most seriously ill children in Dorset and Wiltshire. We’re here not only for the children who need round-the-clock care, but also for their families – offering comfort, support, and the chance to make precious memories together.

Volunteers are at the heart of what we do. Every hour you give helps us to care for more children and families when they need it most.

Why We Need You

Do you love planning, organising, and seeing people come together for a great cause? We’re looking for an enthusiastic Events Assistant Volunteer to join our friendly Events Team.

You’ll play a key role in helping to bring our fundraising events to life — from exciting treks and challenge events to glittering gala dinners. Your support will help raise the vital funds that keep Julia’s House services running for local families.

This is a brilliant opportunity to gain hands‑on experience in event planning, administration, and supporter care, all while being part of a warm, supportive team that makes a real difference.

What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll help the team by:

* Supporting the planning and coordination of a variety of events and fundraising challenges
* Assisting with event admin — keeping databases up to date, tracking participants, and managing event materials
* Communicating with challenge fundraisers — offering encouragement, advice, and post-event thanks
* Preparing and sending fundraising packs and resources
* Researching venues, suppliers, and exciting new event ideas
* Providing friendly, professional support to everyone taking part in our events

What We’re Looking For

* Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
* Friendly, confident communication skills (in-person and on the phone), and a compassionate manner
* Reliability, teamwork, and a positive attitude
* An interest in fundraising and enthusiasm for Julia’s House.
* Able to use own initiative
* Ideally, previous experience in an event management or a senior administration role

What You’ll Get From Volunteering

By joining our team, you’ll:

* Gain valuable experience in event planning, charity fundraising, and supporter engagement
* Develop key administrative and communication skills
* Meet new people and become part of a passionate, friendly team
* Improve your wellbeing through meaningful community involvement
* Make a real difference to the children and families we care for

Support & Training

We’ll make sure you feel confident and supported in your role. You’ll receive:

* A full induction to Julia’s House and your volunteer role
* Ongoing support and guidance from your manager and the Volunteer Team
* All the training and resources you need to succeed

Expenses

We never want you to be out of pocket. Any approved volunteer expenses will be reimbursed in line with our expenses policy.

Equality & Inclusion

At Julia’s House, everyone is welcome. We’re committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion, and we celebrate the unique contributions that every volunteer brings.

Thank you for considering to volunteer with us. It’s a wonderful feeling to be supporting your local community and it will make all the difference to the children and families we care for locally.

If you would like some more information or to register your interest please get in touch.

Julia’s House is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and our aim is for our workforce to be truly representative of all sections of society and our clients, and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. Based on our current staffing profile, we have identified that there is an under‑representation of: (a) individuals of Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) backgrounds, so would especially welcome BAME applicants for any of our vacant positions; and (b) males, so we would welcome male applicants for any of our vacant positions and specially for any care and nursing roles.
