Compensation and Contract
Starting salary: £41,955 - £45,244 per annum for five days a week (36 hours), across 42 weeks of the year. 42‑week contract with an additional 15 days for CPD, project work and supervision activities, and 10 weeks holiday during non‑term time.

About the Role
The South‑East Surrey Speech and Language Therapy team is looking for an experienced Speech and Language Therapist to work in one of our Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD) schools. You will work as part of a small team, including other therapists and assistants, and be supported by a Team Lead with highly specialist skills. This position is combined with your other clinical interests, such as mainstream or dysphagia work.
The Speech and Language Therapy Service is part of Surrey County Council’s local offer to support the special educational needs and disabilities of children and young people within mainstream schools and specialist provision. It is part of the Early Intervention, Prevention and Support Service in Surrey’s Children, Families and Lifelong Learning Directorate, and works collaboratively with other teams such as Educational Psychology, Specialist Teachers and SEN teams.
Key Responsibilities
* Make clinical decision‑making in conjunction with school/college staff about the level of support needed for children and young people on your defined caseload.
* Work with Speech and Language Therapy Assistants to set targets for children, and monitor delivery and outcomes of their work.
* Assess, advise and intervene for children with a range of speech, language and communication needs within your caseload; support complex needs via a joint multidisciplinary approach where essential.
* Support junior team members, line‑manage others and take on students.
* Contribute to and deliver training for schools and other stakeholders.
Qualifications
* A degree in Speech and Language Therapy with a minimum of two years’ experience as an SLT and completed NQP competencies.
* Registered with the UK HCPC and the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT), and eligible to work in the UK.
* Working knowledge of the English education system, including the National Curriculum and SEND Code of Practice.
* Experience supporting and training others, including newly qualified therapists, assistants, students and work‑experience placements.
* Evidence of using a range of evidence‑based interventions to support children and young people.
* Valid UK driving licence and ability to travel across Surrey.
