Overview
We are looking for someone to join our General Surgery Team as a Theatre Support Worker (Band 2). This is a permanent, part-time role at York Teaching Hospital, York, YO31 8HE.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist in the collection and preparation of patients before surgery. You will be the patient advocate for their time in theatre, so you need to be thorough and patient.
* Apply and monitor patients before surgery.
* Act as a theatre runner to help with the setup of sterile equipment and maintaining this.
* Maintain a safe environment and follow cleaning protocols to ensure a clean and safe environment for patients.
* Set up and maintain theatre equipment; stock up and maintain stock levels with theatre.
* Handle tissue samples and document them correctly; handle sensitive information.
Qualifications and Requirements
Essential
* Literacy and numeracy skills to Level 1 (GCSE Grade 2-3, D-F or equivalent).
* Demonstrable effective written and verbal communication skills.
* Basic IT skills, including email on computer or smart device.
* Willing to undertake further training and the ability to prioritise tasks.
Desirable
* Completion of the Skills for Health Care Certificate.
* Level 2/3 health care related qualification (e.g., BTEC, NVQ, T-Level, Apprenticeship).
* Experience in a health or social care setting; ability to communicate health-related information.
