Could you be our new Lead Clinician at Newmedica Lincolnshire?
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced registered health professional to join our dynamic multi‑professional team as Lead Clinician. You will provide leadership, support and development to our Optometry and Advanced Clinical Practitioner colleagues, working as part of the Senior Leadership Team of our busy Ophthalmology service. We are a friendly and dedicated team led by six Partners, including five senior Consultant Ophthalmologists. We provide a range of Ophthalmology services including treatments for cataracts, glaucoma, neovascular AMD, some vitreoretinal conditions, and oculoplastics.
This role is offered on a full‑time basis at a competitive salary and we would love to hear from you if you are an experienced leader with significant knowledge and experience in optometry development and Advanced Clinical Practice. You must hold a current registration with the GOC, HCPC or NMC; additional post‑registration specialist experience would be an advantage. Main duties of the job
* Perform a comprehensive range of diagnostic procedures and clinical assessments, working autonomously and making clinical decisions within the scope of the role.
* Analyse and interpret specialist diagnostic test results.
* Identify new or deteriorating conditions, carry out relevant tests and refer to Consultant, Non‑Consultant Doctor or third‑party provider as appropriate.
* Advise patients on appropriate care, explain implications of eye conditions, treatment options, medication and possible side effects.
* Maintain patient confidentiality at all times and ensure evidence‑based clinical standards of care are achieved.
* Ensure delivery of agreed quality standards, taking action to remedy shortcomings in services that contribute to patient care.
* Be responsible for ensuring the safe use of specialist equipment.
* Keep accurate patient health records, including archiving and other record‑keeping requirements, and write to GPs and other professionals regarding patient progress and outcomes.
* Lead the management of clinical staff such as Optometrists, Orthoptists and Nurse Practitioners, including improvement of poor performers and discipline of staff as required.
* Provide supportive and clear objectives to direct line reports, holding the team to account for delivery of their objectives.
* Support senior staff in the investigation of complaints and clinical incidents, ensuring thorough investigations and completed action plans to enable lessons to be learned and shared.
* Ensure infection risks are identified and acted on.
* Development and revision of standard operating procedures in collaboration with clinical partners.
* Participate in staff recruitment, induction and appraisal of staff in line with Newmedica policies.
* Undertake 1‑2‑1s, annual appraisals and support the professional development of clinical staff.
* Work within the requirements of the code of practice of relevant regulatory and professional bodies.
* Be responsible for and demonstrate commitment to Continuing Professional Development and Clinical Governance.
* Participate in training and development of clinical and other groups of staff.
* Participate in clinical audit and research projects as required.

Person Specification

Qualifications
* MCOptom specialist optometry degree, or BSc (Hons) in Ophthalmic Optics or Optometry or equivalent qualification essential.
* Independent prescribing (IP) qualification or working towards required.
* Additional postgraduate specialist or equivalent experience required such as a Professional certificate in Glaucoma or Medical Retina.
* Current registration with GOC, NMC or HCPC.
* Knowledge of clinical practice and demonstrable knowledge of developments in Optometry is required.
* Experience in a position of leadership.
* Experience of and commitment to medical audit.
* Comfortable with Microsoft Office products and using computerised systems for data input/output and review.
* Capable of seeing at least 22 patients during a clinic day.
* Enjoy routine and rhythm of a process‑driven environment.
* Able to balance working independently with appropriate escalation and delegation.
* Committed to deliver consistently high standards of specialist optometric diagnostic tests using complex equipment.
* Applies analytical and logical thinking to verify expected outcomes.
