Job Title: Senior Electronics Engineer – Contractor
Location: Dundee, UK
Hourly Rate: £55-60pph (Inside IR35)
Position Summary & Key Areas of Responsibility:
We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Electronics Engineer (Contractor) to join our small, fast-moving team in Dundee. You will work closely with other engineering teams and suppliers on the design, evaluation, testing, and support of electronic systems used in self-service products such as ATMs for the banking industry.
This role requires several years of hands-on experience in electronic circuit design and development, with a passion for integrating electronics into complex electromechanical systems. You will play a key role in driving product development from concept to production, ensuring designs meet technical, cost, and regulatory requirements.
Main Responsibilities:
* Design, develop, and test electronic circuits and systems for self-service products
* Select and evaluate electronic components and subsystems
* Debug and troubleshoot electronic assemblies and PCBs
* Support system integration, validation, and verification activities
* Collaborate closely with firmware, mechanical, and manufacturing teams
* Provide technical support to suppliers and manufacturing partners
* Prepare and review documentation such as schematics, BOMs, test procedures, and design reports
* Participate in design reviews and drive continuous design improvement
* Ensure designs comply with USB, EMC, and safety standards
Skills Required:
* Strong experience with microprocessor and microcontroller-based system design
* USB interface design and integration
* Analogue interface design and signal conditioning
* DC-DC switching power supply design for microcontrollers
* Bill of Materials (BOM) cost tracking and management
* Project status reporting and schedule tracking
* Documentation of functional specifications and unit test procedures
* Design expertise for USB, EMC, and safety compliance
Skills / Experience Preferred
* Experience designing for low-cost, high-volume manufacturing
* Proficiency with Cadence schematic entry and PCB layout tools
* Experience with electronic circuit simulation and analysis tools
