An exciting opportunity exists for an enthusiastic and ambitious individual to join and support the Urology team.
Peterborough and Stamford Hospital has recently merged with Hinchingbrooke Hospital and have formed the North West Anglia NHS Trust.
Peterborough City Hospital is looking to appoint a Specialty Doctor to join a busy Urology Department.
You would be expected to participate in the Urology On-Call rota, and on occasions working across both sites.
Applicants must be on the GMC's Specialist Register or be within 6 months of being included on the register at the time of application.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will be jointly responsible to all nine Urology Consultants.
To undertake clinical responsibility for a range of Urological patients, in agreement with relevant Consultants teams.
To maximise the use of spare theatre lists and clinics where appropriate and expertise allows.
To be jointly responsible, together with the Registrar and six Specialty Doctors, for the daily running of the ward and the care of the inpatients.
To participate in the Urology (middle-grade) On Call rota which will be 1 in 8.
To promote the development of multi-disciplinary teams and shared responsibility for the provision of care to patients.
To support the development of clinical governance, using audit findings to improve the quality of treatment and to minimise clinical risk.
To work with colleagues to promote the collective aims of the department.
To participate in departmental teaching and to ensure continued professional

Job description
Job responsibilities
The Urology department at NWAFT is based across all 3 sites, Hinchingbrooke Hospital, Peterborough City Hospital and Stamford Hospital. It has 9 full time consultants. The department provides cover across a wide spectrum of Urological Practice including BPH, incontinence, laparoscopic surgery and stones. In patients and emergency work is based at Peterborough City Hospital.
The Consultants operate a 1 in 8 on call rota system. The middle grade doctors are on a 1 in 8 rota with 24/7 onsite junior (FY1-2/CT doctors) support. We have a full 3 tier rota.
The Urology Department is supported by a strong Specialist Nurse / Practitioner team. We currently have a nurse consultant, a Lead Nurse, 5 Urology Cancer Nurses and two Urology Nurse Practitioners who all run certain follow up and telephone clinics as well as performing procedures, e.g. TRUS biopsies, cystistat and in the near future flexible cystoscopies.
In addition, areas of sub-specialisation which were previously performed outside the department (i.e. Urodynamic Assessment) are now being performed within the department.
NWAFT has a first class Postgraduate Medical Centre. The Urology Department has a monthly audit half-day and the candidate would be expected to participate actively in this. There would be opportunities for research and publications (which would be actively supported), and the attendance of Urology courses and conferences as appropriate to the post holder.
