Are you a hands-on problem solver with a passion for making things work? We're looking for a Junior Engineer to join our growing team in a dynamic optical R&D and manufacturing environment.
Comar Optics supplies custom optics and assemblies to manufacturers. Focusing on consistent quality, we deliver value by providing seamless supply from a single source for all production optical requirements. We promote design for manufacture and work with our customers to take their projects from prototypes through to serial production.
This is an ideal role for someone early in their engineering career who enjoys practical, workshop-based work but also wants to get involved in design, process improvement, and customer-focused problem-solving. You'll also play a key role in supporting the production team—especially when machines go down or need quick fixes to keep things moving.
What You'll Be Doing:
* Designing and making jigs, fixtures, and tooling for production and prototyping
* Supporting with writing and editing G-code for CNC machinery
* Creating and updating designs in CAD software
* Supporting the production team when machines go wrong – diagnosing issues, applying quick fixes, and working with the wider team on long-term solutions
* Assisting with customer problem-solving, providing technical support and developing solutions
* Collaborating across engineering, operations, and sales to improve processes and outputs
* Maintaining clear documentation for builds, fixes, and design iterations
What We're Looking For:
* A hands-on engineer who enjoys both thinking and doing
* Some experience with CAD design
* Basic understanding of G-code and CNC machining
* Comfortable working in and around production machinery and workshop tools
* Strong problem-solving mindset with a practical, can-do attitude
* An interest in optics, photonics, or electronics is a strong advantage
Ideal Background:
* Exposure to a manufacturing or R&D environment (internship or project experience counts)
* Familiar with design-for-manufacture principles
* Calm under pressure and able to respond quickly to production issues
