HR Administrator (Maternity Cover) – Remote (Part-Time)

Approx. 30 hours per week | Fully Remote | Flexible Working

My client is seeking an organised, proactive and people‑focused HR Administrator to provide essential day‑to‑day support to the HR function during a period of maternity cover. As the first point of contact for HR queries across the business, you’ll play a key role in keeping processes running smoothly and ensuring employees receive timely, friendly and accurate support.

Working remotely within a small, high‑trust and supportive organisation, you’ll be responsible for a wide range of HR administrative duties—from maintaining employee records and updating HR documentation, through to supporting recruitment, onboarding and security clearance processes. You’ll work closely with the HR Manager ahead of their leave and then with senior leaders during their absence, ensuring consistency, strong communication and a smooth handover.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone early in their HR career who is looking for genuine responsibility, variety and exposure to the full employee lifecycle within a well‑established SME supporting government and defence sector clients.

What you’ll be doing

* Acting as the first‑line point of contact for employee HR queries via email and Teams, escalating more complex matters when appropriate.
* Managing HR administration across the full employee lifecycle, including producing offer letters/contracts, coordinating onboarding and leaver processes, and maintaining accurate personnel files.
* Using SharePoint as the central HR hub—updating documents, managing templates and following established processes and checklists.
* Maintaining HR data and trackers (e.g., starters, leavers, absence, training) and producing basic reports when needed.
* Supporting security and clearance activities by gathering documentation, liaising with candidates, and working closely with the Security Officer.
* Coordinating with managers and back‑office teams to ensure timely completion of HR‑related tasks while independently managing your remote workload.
* Contributing to continuous improvement by identifying gaps, suggesting updates and helping keep HR documentation clear, current and well‑organised.

What we’re looking for

* A confident, professional communicator who can build rapport and act as the approachable “face of HR”.
* Strong interpersonal skills with tact, discretion and integrity when handling confidential information.
* Highly organised, proactive and self‑motivated, capable of managing your workload independently in a remote environment.
* Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and strong familiarity with SharePoint‑based systems.
* Detail‑focused and process‑driven, with a commitment to accuracy and consistency.
* A positive, flexible team player who is keen to learn and happy to support colleagues and the wider business.
* An interest in HR—whether through CIPD Level 3 study/completion or previous HR admin/coordination experience.
* Willingness and eligibility to meet UK security vetting requirements, including BPSS.

What you’ll need

* Eligibility for UK security clearance, including meeting BPSS residency and nationality requirements.
* Previous experience in an HR administrative or similar support role.
* Actively studying, working towards, or recently completed CIPD Level 3 (or equivalent) is highly desirable.
* Strong Microsoft Office skills and confident use of SharePoint.
* Ability to work effectively from home without close supervision.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills across all levels of the organisation.
* High integrity and respect for confidentiality.
* Ability to work 30 hours per week, flexibly structured across four or five days.

What we offer

* Fully remote working, with expenses claimable for any travel to the office.
* Flexible part‑time hours (approx. 30 hours per week) within core business hours to support work–life balance.
* All equipment provided, including laptop, mobile phone and required home‑working kit.
* 25 days’ annual leave, plus bank holidays.
* Pension scheme : 5% employee / 5% employer contributions.
* Life Assurance at 4× basic salary.
* Private Healthcare (including dental and optical) for you and your immediate family (children up to 18), available after successful completion of probation (Benefit in Kind).
* Recruitment bounty of £2,000 for referring successful hires at Consultant level and above.
* A supportive and collaborative culture where people are trusted, leaders are approachable and wellbeing is genuinely valued.
* A structured handover from an experienced HR Manager, with robust processes, templates and guidance already in place.
* Proud signatory of the Armed Forces Covenant (Silver Award) and ranked 19th out of 50 Great British Employers of Veterans .
