Strategic Regional Lead (Wales)
£80,000+ (plus highly competitive package & performance incentives)
A genuinely rare opportunity has arisen for an ambitious Planning Director to take the lead role in shaping and expanding a well -established and highly regarded planning consultancy's Welsh presence, based from their Cardiff office.
With South Wales experiencing some of the strongest development momentum seen in years — from major residential growth schemes and regeneration programmes, through to commercial, logistics, renewable energy and infrastructure -led projects — this is a role designed for someone who wants to be right at the heart of a market that is not only active, but accelerating.
This is not a "steady -state" position. This is an opportunity to own the regional strategy, drive growth, and build something significant.
The Opportunity
This consultancy already has an excellent reputation, strong existing client relationships, and a healthy pipeline across Wales and the wider UK. The business is now looking for a senior leader to take full responsibility for the next stage of growth — strengthening their regional influence, expanding their client base, and developing a high -performing team around them.
You will have genuine autonomy and backing from the wider leadership team, with the scope to create a long -term regional legacy.
Key Responsibilities
* Acting as the Strategic Regional Lead for Wales, with full accountability for performance and growth
* Driving revenue performance, profitability, and service expansion across the region
* Leading on the delivery of high -profile planning projects, including complex applications and strategic land
* Developing and strengthening major client relationships, becoming a trusted senior advisor
* Playing a key role in business development, winning new instructions and broadening existing accounts
* Recruiting, mentoring and developing a growing planning team, shaping culture and capability
* Representing the business externally across the Welsh planning and development market
Why This Role, Why Now?
The timing could not be better. Cardiff and the wider South Wales region is seeing sustained development demand, increasing investor confidence, and major regeneration ambitions that are translating into real projects and real delivery. With both public and private sector clients actively pursuing growth opportunities, planning consultancies are increasingly central to unlocking development value.
For an experienced planning leader, this means something simple:
more work, more visibility, bigger schemes, and faster progression.
This is a role for someone who wants to be in a market where opportunity is not theoretical — it's happening.
