Overview
Applications are invited for the Consultant in Cardiology post. This post is within the Cardiology Department – Acute and Emergency Medicine (AEM) care group of the Royal Cornwall Hospital, Truro. We are currently a team of 11 substantive full-time Cardiologists, 1 part‑time substantive consultant, and 2 NHS Fixed Term Locums. We aim to employ 2 further substantive Cardiologists to bring the total to 15 full‑time Consultants delivering the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Cardiology service.
Responsibilities
* Support delivery of non‑interventional Cardiology services, specifically Cardiac Imaging, Inherited Cardiac Conditions, Heart Failure and devices.
* Participate in General Cardiology service on the wards and in out‑patients.
* Handle clinical management of patients on the CIU, Roskear wards and the CCU; oversee cardiology patients on Roskear.
* Take responsibility for the clinical management of patients on CCU and CIU on Mondays throughout the day and in the mornings for the rest of the week, with cath‑lab sessions and/or outpatient clinics in the afternoon.
* Work in the on‑call rota manned by 7 Interventional Cardiologists – no separate General Cardiology on‑call.
Qualifications & Requirements
* Applicants must be on the GMC Specialist Register or be within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT at the time of interview.
* This is a permanent consultant post; a pending CCT date is acceptable.
* Flexible to work part‑time for personal reasons or to job‑share, with the full‑time post offering up to a 12 PA job plan.
Additional Information
The on‑call rota is managed exclusively by Interventional Cardiologists; non‑interventional Cardiologists provide comprehensive weekend ward rounds, including visits to the Acute Medical Unit to review new referrals. There is no general medical commitment.
