Role and Responsibilities
* Contribute to the development of the emergency surgical rota
* Play a major role in developing emergency surgical pathways with an emphasis on ambulatory care
* Develop and lead the provision of elective same day surgical services
* Lead quality improvement in emergency surgery
* Provision of clinical leadership in the delivery of a high‑quality emergency surgical service
* Providing teaching and training at undergraduate and postgraduate level. A major role in the teaching of medical students is expected.
* Participate in relevant audit and quality assurance processes, including reviews of manpower requirements.
* Abide by the clinical and corporate governance policies of the trust.
Qualifications
Speciality Grade Doctors must be fully registered with the GMC and must have at least 6 years full‑time regular hospital service (or equivalent) as registrar or above, of which at least 12 months must be in the speciality of General Surgery. It is likely that the successful candidate is able to undertake emergency operations in CEPOD in a "supervisor unscrubbed" capacity. FRCS is desirable.
