The Role

The post holder will provide strategic direction and leadership across Primary & Community Care within NHS Lanarkshire to develop excellence in clinical care. This will involve working across professional and organisational boundaries; in partnership and in collaboration with others including, Medical Staff, General Practitioners and staff working in GP practices, Allied Health Professionals, Health and Social Care Partnerships, Acute Divisional Management Team, individuals, carers, Higher Education Institutions, Voluntary, Independent and Third Sector Organisations.

The post holder will have responsibility in five main areas:

1. Professional Leadership – providing highly specialist expert advice in relation to Nursing in Primary & Community Care services across NHS Lanarkshire and support implementation of the Primary Care Implementation Plan (PCIP) .
2. Expert Practice - demonstrating expert practice and knowledge in relation to Primary & Community Care.
3. Strategic Planning/Policy Development – working closely with team members to provide strategic vision for the development, improvement and delivery of services within NHS Lanarkshire and Health and Social Care Partnerships and further afield, as appropriate. This includes a lead role in policy and standards development, implementation and evaluation in relation to Primary & Community Care determining care delivery in both acute, primary & community care settings.
4. Education and Training – develop and deliver specialist educational programmes to meet the needs of nurses and other relevant stakeholders. This shall be achieved by leading in the identification of educational needs; undertaking investment planning and developing strategy to meet these educational requirements within the area of responsibility.
5. Research and Development - developing and working with relevant stakeholders to undertake research, develop research proposals, and evaluate research. The prime driver shall be the attainment of excellence in clinical practice, provide expert leadership in implementation of General Medical Service’s contract and participate in local and national audits, evaluation and leadership in relation to Primary and Community Care. Monitor and progress audits as part of Research Steering Group.

What we'll need you to bring

1. Registered Nurse with valid NMC Registration.
2. Experienced nurse with significant experience in a senior clinical/management role.
3. Educated to Masters Level with a recognised and appropriate post graduate qualification a
4. Masters level or above, for example, post graduate Advanced Clinical Practice.
5. Able to demonstrate knowledge of NHS Scotland’s Leadership Qualities framework or equivalent framework.
6. Management knowledge gained through experience and continuous professional development.
7. Professional, leadership and managerial experience within speciality / area of practice that
8. Demonstrates the required breadth of knowledge required to lead safety, effectively and efficiently.
9. Excellent communication skills highly developed interpersonal skills, including negotiation, facilitation influencing and presentation skills and evidence of ability to engage with staff and
10. Stakeholders at all levels.
11. Robust understanding of Transforming Roles agenda and General Medical Services contract relating to role of nursing with the Multi Disciplinary Team.
12. Underlying principles.
13. Experience of assessing training needs.
14. Experience of resource management i.e. financial; human; capital.
15. Experience in service planning, project management and performance monitoring/reporting.
16. Knowledge and experience of needs assessment and analysis/interpretation of related data.
17. A proven track record in sound and effective leadership. Ability to think strategically, corporately and act as a team player.
18. A proven track record in developing innovative solutions in meeting organisational requirements and motivating staff to affect change.
19. A proven track record in developing teams/services and integrated solutions to complex and challenging problems.
20. Working knowledge of basic information technology.

Please note for all vacancies where a driving licence is required this must be a full UK/EU/EEA licence.

It would be great if you also have

21. Formal leadership development
22. Evidence of advanced clinical assessment & V300 prescribing
23. Experience working in a community environment
24. Robust understanding of the current Specialist Palliative Care agenda across the Multi Disciplinary Team.
25. Extensive knowledge of clinical guidelines and standards in the Health Care Agenda
26. Knowledge and experience of needs assessment and analysis/interpretation of related data
27. Proven track record in sound and effective leadership
28. Proven track record in developing innovative solutions to meet organisational requirements and motivating staff to affect change
29. A proven track record in developing teams, services and integrated solutions to address complex and challenging problems
